This reminds me I still want to see the original. Think it is on Criterion. So much to buy and so little money.
I have it. Worth the money. Believe it or not, I love Godzilla movies. Well, those from the fifties and sixties anyway. I hope they don't screw the pooch with the new one. Let's get back to the traditional Godzilla!
Most of the Godzilla films are rubbish (aside from the original Gojira, Return of Godzilla and GMK) or just enjoyable kitsch, but almost every last one has a fantastic score, be it by Ifukube or Reijiro Koroku or Masaru Sato's fun, jazzy efforts.
One of the best movie experiences I ever had was seeing Godzilla 2000 on a big screen. The energy in that room was amazing.
My friend David SCREAMED at the top of his lungs during the end credits "THAT WAS THE MOST PROFOUND F**KING ENDING IVE SEEN IN A MOVIE". Everyone chuckled at that.
Was never a fan of the franchise (or, really, the whole Kaiju genre in general), but I do like the original Godzilla. Haven't seen it in a long time, but have been meaning to pick it up on Blu-Ray.
Godzilla really is a legend and every movie (also the thrashy ones from the 70s) are worth to be watched. Akira Ifukube did outstanding work composing for the Godzilla-Series. His Themes for this series are only fantastic. Ifukubes works are really jewels and this counts for many of his film scores - not only for them he did for Godzilla. His Godzilla War March and the Godzilla Themes are legendary and unforgotten. Akira Ifukube made his way in the Olymp of good and excellent film score composers.
WOW! Nine years ago we released our 50th Anniversary edition cd to the landmark film and score! It's crazy to think its been that long and to add another 50 years to it to mark the big green guys b-day? YOWZA!
