A beautiful, minimalist soundscape from Alex Ebert, plus the haunting credit track, "Amen." Thoughts?
(FWIW -- I think I'm becoming more attuned to some of the aural vistas that have filtered into the traditional world of orchestral film music. Ebert's contribution is, admittedly, more tonal than most, but I actually liked "Gravity" and "Captain Phillips" this year. Don't worry, Jerry -- you're still my god.)
Yes, soundscapes is the operative word. I thought this and GRAVITY would be an opportunity for a composer to strut their stuff. But overall I prefer the silences in these films. My guess is whatever abilities these fellows have they were instructed to keep "soundscapes" as the basic idea. And, of course, bring up the "new age" triumphant fader at the appropriate time. Nice job but I do miss musical ideas, as old fashioned as they are they stay with me longer.
