So - read the synopsis of this when it first came out, not attracted to it in the slightest...I deal with enough of this stuff in real life without "entertaining" myself with it at home too!...but, only so long one can ignore the hype, good reviews, reputation etc etc. So - found a great bargain on box set of first three seasons and took the plunge.

Naturally, I'm now addicted. A finely crafted show that is so full of pathos, drama, humour, social commentary, and with characters that are pulled right from real life (so far). I have dealt with every single one of these people professionally, and am gobsmacked about how well drawn they are on screen....a testament I think to great writing, and a cast that were absolutely born for these roles...so much like I am seeing a window on real life rather than a TV drama.

Just watched Season 2 Episode 4, glad that some bits were resolved, but I shake my head with despair (and have a wry smile on my face in anticipation!) of what is to come next.

Never thought in a million years I would go for this show...and also never read any spoilers as to what is to come since I've never been interested...so this is all fresh for me! Loving every minute...

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is in a similar position to me.

Season 4 rocked! Season 3 is a bit slow, and a little uneven. But man, when season 4 hit, all bets were off.

I was like you. The concept didn't sound that attractive to me when I first heard about it. Then I began watching and it didn't take me long before I was totally addicted, like the junkies in the show themselves.

One of the best tv shows of all time, for sure.

The only two things I know about it are that Hal from Malcolm in the Middle is in it. and that everyone who comments on it loves it. One day I plan to watch it but right now it's in a terribly long queue.

I finally decided to check it out a couple of weeks ago via Netflix and I, too, became hooked. Really admire the attention to detail. All elements are superbly realized. The acting is, of course, stellar, but so is the depth of writing and the execution of the production - great direction, production design, everything.

Add me to one whom never seen the series, but keep hearing how great it was. Maybe I'll watch a few episodes (on Netflix) and see if I get drawn in. I would be surprised as I usually don't care for whats popular nowadays. Also When I see the lead actor all I can think of are the Shmenkmans!

He, he...I had it the other way around. When I saw BREAKING BAD, I obviously recognized Bryan Cranston from other roles, but only when I saw the KING OF QUEENS episodes in rerun, did I notice that the Shmenkman guy was played by Cranston.

I thought the 1st season was excellent beyond words, then rapidly lost interest from there. The lab in the RV was classic, as was his standing out in the desert in his underwear! There were a lot of shocking/novel/great moments in the 1st season.

Hi,
I wrote a little blurb on the show after watching its final episode here: http://thecinemacafe.com/the-cinema-treasure-hunter/2013/9/30/now-listen-to-me

Right, because it was imtially described as a "show about a meth dealer dying of cancer".
The better, and more accurate, description, "A high school teacher dying of cancer who becomes a meth dealer"
sounds more enticing.

Not sure if i would call it one of the greatest ever if only because its more melodrama than drama. The acting is what really elevates it.

When I think of Bryan Cranston, there's one role that immediately comes to mind more than any other . . .

big grin

As for Breaking Bad, I have no interest in it. I know people rave about the (supposed) superiority of cable series to those on network television, but honestly, I tend to just find most of them overrated, and rather pretentious, too.

Pretty much this. I enjoyed Season 1 but once I started season 2 it got to be too much for me. I couldn't muster up any interest to continue.

I´m way late to the party - but now that the hype has gone and I tried out the first season I absolutely am hooked. Right now, I´m in the middle of season 3 and find it very hard to stop watching.

For me, this is definitely one of the best TV shows ever made.

I finally did start my bb journey in 2014. One or two slow episodes and periods when - clearly deliberately - either jessie or bryan cranston or the wife went on the clonk and was doing mad out of character stuff, which was annoying, but it is an impressive series. Brilliantly acted right down to the brother in law and Cranstons kid.

I now have to get the final series on dvd and im done.

One thing that struck me about Cranstons performance, the little thin moustache, the tightening of his jaw, the solid jowl movements, voice tone, the hard line delivery when his persona changes... I cant get away from the feeling that he reminds me so much...

William holden's Pike in the bunch.

We've now watched all this through the miraculous medium of Netflix. What a show! Some of the episodes were 8/10, the majority 9/10 and a few were 10/10. Couldn't ask for more. Particularly enjoyed the fly episode, the Hector story arc, Mike, and most of all Gus Fring - best character on a TV show for ages.
