Released by Special Arrangement with Turner Classic Movies Music

In December 2002, Film Score Monthly released a 2CD set of music from the classic '60s spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Within a matter of weeks, it became one of FSM's fastest-selling, best-reviewed and most popular titles.

Now, by popular demand, FSM has returned to the Turner/Warner Bros. vaults of classic MGM TV music and assembled a second volume of great spy music for agents Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) and their never-ending battle against the bad guys of Thrush.

As with the first volume, this 2CD set draws on music from all four seasons of the series, including nearly a half-hour of previously unreleased Jerry Goldsmith cues from his pilot and episode scores; plus music by Lalo Schifrin, Nelson Riddle, Gerald Fried, Morton Stevens, Walter Scharf, Robert Drasnin and Richard Shores—most in crisp-sounding mono, but more than a half-hour (fourth-season and theatrical-release music) in stereo.

This volume contains all of the remaining original versions of the music that Hugo Montenegro chose for his two RCA LPs of U.N.C.L.E. themes, plus seven different arrangements of Goldsmith's U.N.C.L.E. theme—including two (one by Goldsmith, one by Fried) that were recorded but never used on the show! The CD includes detailed liner notes by author Jon Burlingame, whose research for these two volumes has turned into the most exhaustive chronicle ever written of the music of a single television show.

Gerald Fried Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Gerald Fried (b. 1928) contributed scores to some of the most famous 1960s TV series including Star Trek ("Amok Time"), Gilligan's Island, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Lost in Space. His career began in the 1950s with several features for his Bronx friend Stanley Kubrick (The Killing, Paths of Glory) and has also encompassed classic '50s horror like The Return of Dracula and, into the '70s and '80s, landmark longform television such as Roots. His scores are distinguished by his distinctive rhythms and also colorful writing for woodwinds (he is an oboe player).

Jerry Goldsmith Scores on FSM
About the Composer

What to say about Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004), the reason so many of us are soundtrack collectors in the first place? The Los Angeles native knew early on he wanted to write music for the movies, had an extensive training in television in the 1950s (starting at CBS), and went on to an unparalleled career in the movies—capable of brilliance in every genre, and beloved by his peers and fans. FSM has released as many of his scores as we could get our hands on, from classic TV work like The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to famous features (Patton) and obscure gems like The Illustrated Man and 100 Rifles...heck, make that all of them. Jerry, we love you and miss you! IMDB

Lalo Schifrin Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Lalo Schifrin (b. 1932) is an Argentinean-born composer, conductor, arranger and pianist who has made a major impact on film, TV, the concert hall and jazz stage. He parlayed an early career as a pianist and arranger for Dizzy Gillespie into a run as one of the hottest film and TV composers of the 1960s and '70s, with projects such as Mission: Impossible, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Cool Hand Luke, Enter the Dragon and more. His more recent films include the popular Rush Hour series. He is beloved for his Latin jazz but is also an accomplished classical composer and conductor with ongoing recording, composing and performing projects.IMDB

Morton Stevens Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Morton Stevens (1929-1991) was a veteran film and primarily television composer who wrote the famous theme to Hawaii Five-0 and contributed episode scores to all manner of classic shows, including Thriller and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He was a friend of Jerry Goldsmith's and had a similarly modern orchestral style on many projects; he completed the scoring of the miniseries Masada when Goldsmith was unavailable. In addition to his work as a composer, Stevens was head of music at CBS' West Coast operations (a lengthy stint that began in 1965) during which time he oversaw the scoring of many notable series. IMDB

Various Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Greek composer Various is best known for his synthesizer scores...no, we are kidding. This is a placeholder we use for collections representing more than two composers. Although it would be fun to write "Various's" bio; he's had quite a career.
