Released by Special Arrangement with Turner Classic Movies Music

Film Score Monthly's two original-soundtrack CD sets of music from The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the show that launched television's '60s spy craze, have been among the fastest-selling, best-reviewed titles in the history of the label.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of U.N.C.L.E. this fall, FSM completes its trilogy of U.N.C.L.E. albums with another 2-CD set of music from both the original series and its 1966 spinoff, The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. For one season, globetrotting agents Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) and U.N.C.L.E. chief Alexander Waverly (Leo G. Carroll) were joined by April Dancer (Stefanie Powers) and Mark Slate (Noel Harrison) in their battles against the bad guys of Thrush.

The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. featured some of the earliest dramatic work of composer Dave Grusin-who would go on to Oscar-winning film-music fame and commercial success as a jazz artist-as well as music by Man from U.N.C.L.E. favorite Richard Shores and Munsters composer Jack Marshall.

Supplementing the jazzy, fun Girl From U.N.C.L.E. scores are a wide variety of selections from all four seasons of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., including unusual (and, in one case, previously unused) Jerry Goldsmith tracks and more music by Morton Stevens, Walter Scharf, Lalo Schifrin, Gerald Fried, Robert Drasnin and Richard Shores; stereo mixes of the first-season main title and the Girl From U.N.C.L.E. titles; music from four of the U.N.C.L.E. movies; and perhaps most exciting, 37 minutes of Jerry Goldsmith's best first-season U.N.C.L.E. music as re-recorded for the series' 1967-68 season in stereo!

Gerald Fried Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Gerald Fried (b. 1928) contributed scores to some of the most famous 1960s TV series including Star Trek ("Amok Time"), Gilligan's Island, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Lost in Space. His career began in the 1950s with several features for his Bronx friend Stanley Kubrick (The Killing, Paths of Glory) and has also encompassed classic '50s horror like The Return of Dracula and, into the '70s and '80s, landmark longform television such as Roots. His scores are distinguished by his distinctive rhythms and also colorful writing for woodwinds (he is an oboe player).

Jerry Goldsmith Scores on FSM
About the Composer

What to say about Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004), the reason so many of us are soundtrack collectors in the first place? The Los Angeles native knew early on he wanted to write music for the movies, had an extensive training in television in the 1950s (starting at CBS), and went on to an unparalleled career in the movies—capable of brilliance in every genre, and beloved by his peers and fans. FSM has released as many of his scores as we could get our hands on, from classic TV work like The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to famous features (Patton) and obscure gems like The Illustrated Man and 100 Rifles...heck, make that all of them. Jerry, we love you and miss you! IMDB

Dave Grusin Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Dave Grusin (b. 1934) is a composer, arranger, jazz pianist and recording artist who has made major contributions to jazz and popular music as well as film, where his deft blending of orchestra and pop music (either/or, and often both!) has enriched projects in all genres—but he is especially known for his sensitive touch for acclaimed dramas. He has also composed a number of well-known TV themes, from The Name of the Game to Baretta to St. Elsewhere. FSM has released some of his earliest work on CD, including his TV music for The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.—our pleasure, as he was pretty much great from day one. IMDB

Morton Stevens Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Morton Stevens (1929-1991) was a veteran film and primarily television composer who wrote the famous theme to Hawaii Five-0 and contributed episode scores to all manner of classic shows, including Thriller and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He was a friend of Jerry Goldsmith's and had a similarly modern orchestral style on many projects; he completed the scoring of the miniseries Masada when Goldsmith was unavailable. In addition to his work as a composer, Stevens was head of music at CBS' West Coast operations (a lengthy stint that began in 1965) during which time he oversaw the scoring of many notable series. IMDB

Various Scores on FSM
About the Composer

Greek composer Various is best known for his synthesizer scores...no, we are kidding. This is a placeholder we use for collections representing more than two composers. Although it would be fun to write "Various's" bio; he's had quite a career.
