Sunday

I’m thinking there’s an oratorio to be had in Jerry’s music. Combine three or four grand tracks -- an up tempo piece, then a slower meditative one, followed by a big, rousing finale --  add some Old Testament text sung by a choir on top of it all and, Bingo!, instant classic. I’m thinking one of Jerry’s classier scores, something iconic and powerful without being too well-known to the broader public at large. Something that can carry an underpinning of contemplation, reflection and a yearning for the presence of something greater than yourself.  Yeah, I’m thinking Total Recall. Open with The Dream, then The Mutant, then End of a Dream and A New Life as the appropriately upbeat closer. Yeah, that’ll bring everybody closer to the almighty.

Monday

Lukas announces FSM Summer Sale.  The Flim-Flam Man/A Girl Named Sooner, Room 222/Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies, The Illustrated Man, Hawkins on Murder/Winter Kill/Babe and Jericho/The Ghostbreaker. Whew. Good thing I already own all of those. It’s not like I’ve got lots of extra cash floating around. But then Intrada has to go and spoil it all by announcing In Harm’s Way. Curses!

Tuesday

Oh, crap! I don’t own Ace Eli! I log in to Screen Archives and plug that hole in my collection.

Wednesday

A guy who works at the grocery store mentions John Williams. I immediately pounce with “Do you know Jerry Goldsmith?” He responds with a, “Hmm, I think I’ve heard the name. What has he done?” I clench my fists and end up piercing my own palms with my fingernails. “Patton, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek The Motion Picture!” I rant. “He was a freakin’ genius! John Williams can’t hold a candle to Goldsmith!” I am escorted out of the store. Jerks. I’ll go back tomorrow and blast some Fireworks at them.

Thursday

My two year old son asked to listen to Supergirl again. Yes! Surely he likes it for the music and not for the outfit. Right? Right!?

Friday

Whistled Ilia’s theme as I strolled into Starbucks. Ordered vanilla latte with a dome of whipped cream in her honor.

Saturday

Spent 45 minutes trying to decide which Jerry score would be the most appropriate to accompany lawn mowing. Flirted with Air Force One but ended up going with The Challenge. After all, how can I go wrong with a track titled Bamboo Forest?

Supergirl is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores, and she does have a cute outfit.

In this Week in the Cult of Jerry, the final diamond was laid into the crown of my "Tower of Goldsmith". With an official reissue of IN HARM'S WAY, I have every official cd release of every Goldsmith score- all of them.

No more Worlds to Conquer...

If you had a daughter and she asked to hear Rambo: First Blood Part II again, would you say "Surely she likes it for the music and not for the shirtlessness. Right? Right!?"? :)

Yeah, that was probably a stupid thing to invent. (Not to imply that the rest of the crap I invented for this is not just as stupid). While my son did ask to hear Supergirl again, I had no thoughts at all about his motivation except that maybe he liked the music. Truth be told, I do have a daughter, and she does have a Supergirl outfit and while my son has yet to wear it, he does look particularly fetching in my daughter's high heels and other princess paraphernalia.
