Quartet has announced three new soundtrack releases -- the first CD release of Henry Mancini's score for actor-director Paul Newman's 1970 film version of Ken Kesey's logging drama SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION (sometimes screened as Never Give an Inch), featuring the same cues as the original MCA LP, which itself featured all of Mancini's brief score except for one 90-second cue -- the film received Oscar nominations for Richard Jaeckel's supporting performance and Mancini's original song "All His Children"; Lalo Schifrin's score for Jackie Chan's American starring debut, 1980's THE BIG BRAWL, directed by Robert Clouse (Enter the Dragon, Game of Death), and featuring the same cues as the original Japanese LP; and Victor Reyes' score for the new sci-fi horror film COLD SKIN.

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

LES COWBOYS - Raphael

"Except for a late-into-the-proceedings confrontation involving two men and a gun, which is staged in a way that’s both not credible and lacking in tension, Bidegain’s mise-en-scene is strongly suggestive. Arnaud Potier’s widescreen images don’t simply ape iconic Western images but allow the French, Belgian and Pakistani (shot in India) landscapes to be themselves, while Raphael’s musical score helps sustain the drama and tension."

Boyd van Hoeij, Hollywood Reporter

MY GOLDEN DAYS - Gregoire Hetzel

"One of the director’s crowning touches is his mix of a dramatic score from Grégoire Hetzel and Mike Kourtzer (along with a touch of Stravinsky) with contemporary pop music from the era, including everything from Ska and De La Soul to the Specials. Those musical choices, blended with the ever-so-slightly overly dramatic performances from its wonderful young actors, makes 'My Golden Days' incredibly French. Which is great if, like me, you’re a vive-le-Nouvelle-Vague kind of film fan."

Tim Cogshell, The Wrap

"These various episodes cohere beautifully despite the picture’s shaggy, digressive narrative structure, woven together by the spry rhythms of Laurence Briaud’s editing and a gently melancholy score composed by Gregoire Hetzel. As ever, the sheer richness and variety of Desplechin’s human circus is such that even a stray episode involving Paul’s younger cousin Bob (Theo Fernandez) and his stormy confrontation with his own overbearing mother (Anne Benoit) feels utterly of a piece with everything else. But what ultimately unifies the proceedings, dramatically and emotionally, is Paul’s six-year, stop-and-go relationship with Esther, wonderfully played by charismatic newcomer Roy-Lecollinet (leading with her pout, but slowly revealing much more) as a young woman whose awareness of her effect on the men in her midst has made her sullen, independent-minded and boldly indifferent to the thoughts and feelings of others."

Justin Chang, Variety
