Always surprised there has not been an official CD of this score. I am glad I have the promo but it would be great to hear a new full presentation of this score released in official form. Fantastic mix of synth and orchestra.

Glad to see someone else feels the same. I asked the same question several years ago...

Soundtrack controlled by UMG, film controlled by Sony. Not the easiest or cheapest thing to releases.

Hopefully some day

To me, Rubinstein came out of the blue (no pun intended) in 1983, with his double-whammy of Blue Thinder and Wargames, too fabulous scores which I absolutely adore.

Really disappointed he never really got any more A list assignments, although his score for The Hard Way is pretty good fun.

I have some kind of promo CD for Blue Thunder, one of the great scores in a GREAT year for filmusic.

But I prefer my LP because when I play it backwards I hear hidden messages of a sensitive nature.

God, I bought this during the great promo flood in the mid 90's. Haven't listened to it once. Nor seen the film. I think I bought it as I'd just enjoyed Nick of Time.

I always liked his theme to Scarecrow and Mrs King.

Not in dire need of a reissue as I have the promo but I have been wanting a proper release of the original soundtrack for "Bring 'em back alive".

What? What? Listen to it immediately, it's a masterpiece! The film too - a long time favourite! "Catch you later!".

Wasn't there an MCA release for BLUE THUNDER? I could swear that I had a copy on cassette in my collection years ago. (Perhaps I'm thinking about something else, or was that the 'promo' release?)

Indeed there was, hence MV's mention of Universal Music needing to get involved in a new release.

I was going to suggest BUYSOUNDTRAX, however, having just had a trawl through their website, the unthinkable has happened. Blue Thunder, hitherto available at a somewhat lower price for a number of years, just ain't there no more.

This is the version I obtained from them. Looks like mebbe it's gone scarce for a while.

Thanks for bringing this up - giving the promo a spin for the first time in a long time. One of my favorite action scores ever, and one of my favorite electronic/orchestral mashups. Feels a lot less dated than many other scores from the time.

I had the LP in '83 (WarGames too, though didn't listen to that one as much because of the dialogue tracks). Got the cassette in about '86 and played it to death. And then fell in love with the promo - I think it was part of my first purchase from Intrada when I first got on the internet. I'd be more than happy to buy a new official release if it ever sees the light of day. The more Arthur B. Rubinstein the better!

But what if . . . Intrada comes out with the definitive Blue Thunder? How does your Fort Knox protection scheme rate in such a circumstance? wink

A newer remastered version would be very welcome, Promo wasn't too bad but it had some drop outs and distortion on some tracks.
Also the last track which is the best of the album to my opinion has a lot of hiss and noise over it, I would buy this in an instant if only this would be in better quality and hopefully including The Beepers too in the extended (12 inch) version.

Yes. Official. Gimme!

I have it, bought it in Japan (where else).

A friend has been drooling over it, but I'm not ready to sell it. So he needs it. So let's have it, already.
