EDIT: ALL LINKS ARE BAD (except for the spin-off pilot) For those who never saw the series, week after weeks Olvis put out predominantly orchestral theme-based scores with the warmth and approach reminiscent, in my opinion, of John Barry's score to "Dances With Wolves", with dashes of Goldsmith mixed in. Fans of the scoring have wanted a release for quite some time now. Before it closed shop, Sonic Images had a score CD put together, but all the other releases planned never came to be (off the top of my head those also included: "Walker, Texas Ranger" and The Film Music of Christopher Tyng). However, some copies got out early and it's been a hard-as-hell thing for fans to get their hands on. It became known as a promo; there were two versions, one slightly longer than the other. Now that TV series scoring has become much more common place thanks to the efforts of labels like Film Score Monthly and La La Land Records, I hope to bring the music to the attention of fellow score lovers. SEASON ONE:
"Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" (the pilot) By: William Olvis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JIIUjDtMDQ https://ok.ru/video/1859294333623 Highlights: 0:00 in. 2:34 in. 3:24 in. 7:08 in. 16:15 in. 19:12 in. 21:54 in. 27:15 in. The series' theme played around with on piano. 42:09 in. Death and funeral music. 54:29 in. 1:00:45 in. 1:01:12 in. 1:04:00 in. 1:06:57 in. Some Barry-esque action. 1:18:58 in. Some Barry-esque drama. 1:28:21 in. And the end credits following the cue. Yes, we all know babies come out of the womb with no umbilical cords. "Epidemic" By: William Olvis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0nJNKgGu-o Highlights: 0:00 in. 5:31 in. A slow pleasant cue playing around with the series' theme. 6:48 in. A fun piece with acoustic guitar and strings as Quinn tries to make food. 10:56 in. An emotional piece lead by strings. 20:54 in. Strings and trombone, again using the series' theme. 34:36 in.

Finishing SEASON ONE:
"The Prisoner" By: William Olvis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP2SLFuCfn8 Highlights: 15:15 in. 22:40 in. 37:01 in. 39:59 in. "Happy Birthday" By: William Olvis Highlights: 18:01/19:08 in. 22:02 in. 43:30 in. "Rite of Passage" By: David Bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPmM0ONceXY Highlights: 0:00 in. A little bit of Aaron Copland in this and other cues. 5:42 in. 7:35 in. 9:40 in. 14:27 in. 26:10 in. 3430 in. 35:40/36:25 in. The spirit quest, with drum percussion interruptions. 44:00 in. I'm, not sure what was going on in the suddenly shift in composers a dozen episodes in. Any speculation on my part would be baseless and pure guess work. "Heroes" By: David Bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttACUP2dj9Q Highlights: 13:05 in. 17:40 in. 22:00 in. 37:30 in. 43:10 in. "The Operation" By: David Bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEVnPNsxowo Highlights: 11:28 in. 27:48 in. 40:21/41:51 in. 43:10 in. "The Secret" By: William Olvis Additional Music by: David Bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZcNn6eRovw (the video episode name is mis-labeled) Highlights: 5:29 in. 23:57 in. 39:15 in. I think this might be tracked from a previous episode Olvis did. 43:28 in. "Portraits" By: David Bell Theme & Additional Music by: William Olvis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tqbPzulZ14 (the video episode name is mis-labeled) Highlights: 24:08 in. 39:43 in. More Aaron Copland inspiration clear in this cue. 42:04/42:53 in. This was the final episode Bell was involved with and the final episode of the season. Back in 2010 I did an interview with him and I asked him how he got involved, why he didn't return, and how he met Olvis. The answer is telling of behind-the-scenes problems: Regrettably, this was one of the few unpleasant situations in my career and I still don't know quite what happened. I don't recall ever meeting William Olvis.
I suspect parts of his scores for "Portraits" and "the Secret" were tossed and replaced. Perhaps even what is left was mangled up. Only proper release of scoring from the show will uncover the full truth of what happened. I don't think if I e-mailed him he'd want to get into it.

I vaguely remember watching this show with my mom when I was younger, and I do recall the orchestral scoring being quite nice... Yavar

Finishing SEASON TWO:
"Where the Heart Is: Part 1" (and Part 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7MDd0GdovA A feature-length special. I accidentally skipped it, so I am doubling back to this two-parter. Highlights: 0:00 in. 7:23 in. 16:28 in. Opening sounding like a classical quartet string piece. Also some brass and a flute. 23:10 in. 29:18 in. Another piece that sounds like classical music. 36:05 in. I'd have to fish out my copy of the score promo, but I'm pretty sure this cue is on it. About 39:00 in. 42:56 in. More classical sounding music. The episode score is littered with pieces like this. 48:17 in. 1:08:12 in. About 1:17:30 in. 1:19:25 in. 1:24:29 in. 1:27:17 in. 1:30:02 in. An emotionally powerful cue with brass to close out the episode. Almost completely dialogue free, and little FX. Sometimes it's music only. The whole episode score deserves to be released. "Return Engagement: Part 1" (and Part 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cv8q07WY04 Highlights: 11:53 in. 13:40 in. 23:11 in. 26:03 in. 33:18 in. 44:09 in. 1:04:33 in. About 1:26:25 in.

Continuing SEASON THREE:
"Money Trouble" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGs2afbNOQk Highlights: 5:30/14:34 in. Some music with whimsy, for brass. 26:11 in. "Thanksgiving" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KySrwnyazAA Highlights: 9:28 in. 16:47 in. 2054 in. 33:31 in. "Ladies' Night: Part 1" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8McY0NA92C4 Highlights: 7:28 in. 21:17 in. 26:15 in. "Ladies' Night: Part 2" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDQFJhqG9T8 Highlights: 11:03 in. 18:10 in. 23:42 in. About 27:30 in. 39:40 in. 42:44 in. "A First Christmas" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq2CiH_rpww Highlights: 16:00 in. 23:22 in. 33:28 in. 39:41 in. Man, and you thought the town folk in "Gunsmoke" were a bunch of assholes. Let's recap what these town people have done so far: they joined a new group known as the KKK and suddenly were racist against Robert E. and beat him up and stop patroning his wife's business; they banned books and burned them; and now it's anti-Semitism against Jews where only Sully and Quinn's family appear to be okay with them (so far into the episode). Next thing you'll be telling me they'll want mob justice and who knows what. Well, turns out like each other episode, Quinn makes them see the errors in their ways and they apologize and be nice. You know, until then next time they get a raging hate boner. "Indian Agent" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG-A2nn0Kbk Highlights: 1130 in. 31:49 in. 42:48 in. "The End of the World" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjLONpM0jG0 Highlights: 8:13 in. 19:35 in. About 29:40 in. 41:41 in. And Colleen has been re-cast. Not only does the new actress not even look like the old one, they she's now a brunette; they couldn't even dye her hair blonde.
