The tease: I’ll be working here at Intrada’s studio this week with a terrific composer in attendance. He’s also a really good friend. We’ve released a number of his soundtracks in the past and are this week collaborating on a really big one, both in terms of scale and duration. The picture itself chronicles a famed American historical event. The score is by turns elegiac and powerful, moving and exciting. In my opinion it’s a truly great one. Look forward to it after we bring everything across the finish line.

This was in "Doug's Corner" as of today. I'm stumped.

Trying to think of a composer whom they've released multiple scores from before, and who is still with us. Bruce Broughton is an obvious choice, but I can't think of anything that fits. Ditto Christopher Young. It doesn't sound like Richard Band territory, and nothing in Laurence Rosenthal's filmography jumps out at me. Craig Safan's "Son of the Morning Star" fits the clues, but would of course be a revisit from them.

Who, and what, am I missing?

Didn't Broughton compose a big score for a George Washington miniseries?

Yes, as did Laurence Rosenthal (Rosenthal for the first, Broughton for the follow-up). But Intrada released both of those already.

You know anything about fixing a hot water tank?

I think James Newton Howard scored it.

Why can’t it be a complete release for Son of the Morning Star?

Craig Safan's wonderful Son Of The Morning Star is the first one that springs to mind.

It could be. Certainly, his tease didn't rule out a revisit of an old release.

Don't know how many John Frizzell or Randy Edleman titles were released by Intrada (if any), but the part from the hint I quoted above had me think of Gods and Generals.

I believe it's a grand total of zero releases from those two.

Maybe Cliff Eidelman’s Columbus: The Discovery (if not Varese in perp)?

But more likely Son Of The Morning Star as suggested above.

Something by David Shire that fits the clue, or the China Syndrome.

Completely unfamiliar with the TV series, but the original album is magnificent. I think it runs about an hour - unsure how much music was actually composed for the 2-part series (would it fit in with the "really big in duration") but a complete release would be very welcome.

Broughton, How The West Was Won mini-series from 76-79; BB scored 15 episodes, Jerrold Immel scored 8 and wrote the theme, and John C Parker 2. Remember this show for a) being quite good, and b) some great music. With Intrada’s close connection to Broughton, I often wondered why this was never released; with luck, it now will be....

I was expecting a topless picture of Doug with stars covering his nipples.

Maybe they managed to finagle all-score release of Texas Rising?

YES Yavar. Documented here what a fan of this score I am. One of the first I invested in after joining the board I believe.

Some years ago I wrote the following on the Intrada board when The Last Starfighter was released:
"Thanks for the behind the scenes info Doug, and thanks for this amazing expansion! I must argue about 'inarguably finest hour'. It would be no contest were it not for another Safan score -- also released by Intrada -- that isn't perhaps as fun, exciting, or nostalgic as Starfighter but is more profound, his finest hour on slightly different criteria. I am of course speaking of the gorgeous Son of the Morning Star, and I assure you I am far from alone in my appreciation! I hope Intrada is considering revisiting that one too, for all the many people who weren't lucky enough to snag a copy, or those just now discovering Safan's music. It's now very expensive on the second hand market, and many owners like myself would also re-buy for any extra music, better sound quality (not that the old one sounded anything other than wonderful, but the same was true of Starfighter and look what you've just achieved with that), or more substantial liner notes!"

Doug replied, "Yeah, we're huge fans of Son Of The Morning Star. I worked really hard back then to get Republic Pictures willing to give us rights. Happily they not only did that but also turned over to us the entire recording sessions for the mini-series itself. So we've got a boatload of unreleased material we could add to our earlier album. Just keep in mind the challenges of renewing interest with the current license holder. But don't for one minute think we're not on top of it.

And, yes, I agree it gives The Last Starfighter a run for the money. How could it not?? Morning Star is filled with trumpet solos!!"
