This program had some of the best credit visuals, and a tremendous theme. It is unfortunate that the only commercial recording of the theme (of which I am aware) was by Al Hirt, using a "wa-wa" trumpet. The same arrangement with a flute would have been fantastic.

The show itself was pretty good (if my memories of 50-odd years ago are correct), but it was five to ten years too late. By the mid 60's the half-hour drama was effectively dead.

A release of the original scores would be wonderful.

I loved the show. And that theme! Schifrin can do more with a flute and a small ensemble than a dozen composers can do with their bloated symphony orchestras.

A correction: Fried did more than one episode. I've edited the post to correct that.

There's been no official release, of course. The series isn't even legally release on DVD either.

It would probably take a 2CD set (maybe three) to get all the scoring goodness covered.

I forgot to say: According to trivia found elsewhere, scenes from the pilot were cut, including the character's past as a cat burglar, so these may have been scored and there is unheard scoring waiting to be unearthed by some label.

Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat. If any label wants to slap that great Schifrin theme onto a silver round disc along with some episode cues I'll step right up.

Just watched one of these. The best part was the main title graphics. The music is very good too.

Just fantastic.Always loved the Jimmy Smith Album!Definetly worth and in need of a release !!!!!

The track from the Jimmy Smith album has nothing to do with this TV show.

The Jimmy Smith tune is from the 1964 film Les Felins, a.k.a. Joy House.

Confusingly, both were composed by Lalo Schifrin.

Not to be confused with the film, but remember that Lalo also composed that hit for organist Shirley Scott B.U.L.L.E.T.

Ahhh yes Les Felins not THE CAT by Jimmy Smith of course.Sorry.

No apologies necessary. It is confusing that Schifrin ended up writing two themes both called, essentially, "The Cat," and within a few years of each other.
