I'm Rockford-ded out at the moment. SEASON 1:
If I don't mention an episode, that means no composer is credited (this season there, oddly, only one episode had no composer credited). Skipping the pilot film as Prometheus released the score. It also included arrangements of cues that Richard Shores did to be tracked into episodes. I don't own the CD yet. I'm sure Yavar will be along today to tell us Jerry only did so many episodes and what the real story is behind all the credits, but for now I am simply going by what it says on screen. I'm sure Yavar will be along today to tell us Jerry only did so many episodes and what the real story is behind all the credits, but for now I am simply going by what it says on screen. Actually, my knowledge of Jerry's involvement on this series comes only from the Prometheus album liner notes, which seem to act as if he *only* scored the pilot of this show (which is presumably why they used the Richard Shores Goldsmith library music arrangements were used to fill out the disc). That said, I am intrigued by the fact that Jerry was credited with so many first season episodes and this show has long been something of a mystery to me. It's possible that all of those episodes were at least 50% scored with library music (either the Shores arrangements or repurposed original Goldsmith cues from the pilot), which might justify the credits. Did it seem to you like cues were being re-used between the different Goldsmith-credited episodes, or did the scores seem noticeably different from each other? In any case, it seems like the thing to do is compare the highlight cues you pointed out with the Prometheus album and see if anything matches... Yavar

A lot of similar cues, but nothing identical tracked yet in any episode -- that I recognized. Cool stuff, nonetheless.

Harold Gelman. Also, Robert Drasnin contributed. That concludes season three. Until such time as I can find the ones that didn't have loads, that is.

Continuing SEASON 4:
Doubling back to an episode I missed that was online but at Dailymotion. "Three Days to Thirty" By: Richard Markowitz https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2kpxwu (there's a weird noise that pops up sometimes in the load; I don't know if it's a bad load or if it's some kind of trick to get around copyright detection) Highlights: 1:54 in. 27:44 in. 29:20 in.

Continuing SEASON 1:
Doubling back to an episode that wasn't up when I started. "Chief" By: Jerry Goldsmith https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKbl-kfSEJs (BAD LINK) Highlights: 0:00 in. 1:03 in. 2:13 in. 10:34 in. 20:08 in. 47:27 in. I think this might be partially or wholly tracked (an edit job).

I loved this. It was a bit hit n miss in uk, screening wise. But usually always late at night. Quite gritty stories. And some very random plots. And i seemed to remember several pilot feature length tv movies. I see you have listed some. I defo watched freeway killings. Keep goin justin.

These episode scores credited to Jerry Goldsmith...do they seem like they are re-using the same cues between them, or do you think that he actually wrote original scores for multiple episodes, contrary to what the Prometheus album indicated? Yavar

Off hand, since I don't own the Prometheus CD and I don't have time to go back over episodes and compare cues, I'd say what I've heard is a mixture of alternates, some original scoring (not necessarily by Goldsmith, even though the only credited composer), and some editing of parts of cues used before. I sear I've heard, for example, cues not heard in other episodes thus far. Sometimes the alternates are subtle, maybe containing slight differences and, in one case, a tambourine added and parts not as heard in other versions. Again, keep in mind this is from recollection of scores I heard about six months ago and the ones I did today. While the links are still there, people who want to compare, should; they could go bye-bye any time -- maybe months from now, maybe next week.

I suspect that original Goldsmith pilot cues were re-used, plus he may have even received composing for cues based on his thematic material written as library music by other composers (like Shores). Jerry maintained that he scored the pilot episode only, and I don't think he really had time to tackle more than that, that year. Yavar

Should I do more police stuff or move on to another series tomorrow after I finish "Mrs. Columbo". If your user name begins with "Mr.", you need not give your two cents.

Only reiterating what i said previously but i loved this series. Pre-dated Hill Street and was often far grittier than most cop shows or tv movies. And theme...or varying themes - by Jerry. This was back in the day when major titan film composers would suddenly show up out of blue writing a tv theme - jerry here and waltons, Bernstein with Arthur of the britons and Captains and Kings, jarre with Cimarron Strip, Barry, Budd, etc.
