Any comments on the music to this film?

The Norwegian press screening is in two weeks, and alas that's in the middle of my holiday. But I hope to see it later on. Unlike my colleagues, I was not blown away by HEREDITARY. Something about the odd black humour threw me off. But there was enough interesting there to keep me optimistic for this, especially because it's set during a famous summer celebration of our neighbouring country.

Has the soundtrack been released already?

I can't comment on the music other than what I heard during the screening that I saw. It was very reminiscent of Hereditary, meaning some long, weird, dissonant sound moments were heard, along with the "Swedish" sounding folk songs as heard in the film and some nice, melodic passages too. But nothing that makes me want to own any of it.

As far as the movie, if you are a fan of the filmmakers previous film Hereditary, you know what you are in for: a long, slow burn of a film, with more static shots that most people these days are accustomed to and some in your face moments of violence and gore. In addition, whereas I had no clue where Hereditary was heading, if you are any sort of moviegoer you know exactly what is in store for these college students, meaning no surprise here. It's the journey of getting there that is unnerving and disturbing. But again, if you've seen "The Wicker Man" (the original) you know what's in store.

Hereditary unnerved and disturbed the hell out of me longer after it was over. Midsommar, a decent and somewhat unnerving film but one where you knew exactly where it was heading thus the trip itself gets tiresome.

I loved the film. The music was nothing that I would seek out, but it did its job.

This film was a vile, senseless, vulgar mess and the music did nothing to elevate it.

I saw the film last night. I was rather disappointed. In contrast to Hereditary, this one was poorly written and extremely messy and goofy. And gory moments felt totally unjustified and gratuitous.

But the score is actually the only great thing in it, if you ask me. I'm listening to it on Spotify as I type.

I only got an hour in (fighting anxiety be damned) and the music was no help. The main title made me a bit queasy and idk why the mushroom trip music had to be mixed at FULL VOLUME

The actual source music and whatever else goes on at the festivals was really interesting, though. I'll give it another try someday.

Walked out after 45 minutes. Complete failure. Rod Serling would have told it better in 26 minutes on
"The Twilight Zone."

For those who like to lose themselves inside of long, atmospheric films, Midsommar is perfect.

Any comments on the music to this film?

I hated this almost as much as the original "Wicker Man".

I wonder if we’re ever going to agree about anything big grin

Love The Wicker Man, film and score, and was thoroughly absorbed in Midsommar. Mr Broxton’s review is spot on.

Loved the score.

Loved the movie.

Don’t understand those decrying a horror movie as a vile, gory, and disgusting.

Different courses for different horses.

I really enjoyed the movie--I just wish the score release had the festival source music.

I like this movie. It takes patience. It is a slow journey. Those looking for immediate scares won't care for it. I found it more creepy than scary, and I liked the languid pace because it was an interesting and thought-provoking journey. Florence Pugh did a fine job as the lead actor. Music was effective, but I'm not sure I'd listen to it as a stand-alone.

Great summation, Joan.

Some of the characters were a little crudely drawn (Mark in particular, who in real life would be unlikely to have ANY friends) but Dani’s journey and her dawning realisation of what she wants is central and subtle.

Thanks, TG. What you say here is so true. I wrote more about this movie on the Rate Movie 1-10 on the other side.
