I've yet to hear the score as the film doesn't open here till Thursday, but I enjoyed Wallfisch's first score and its nice two disc treatment by Water Tower Music. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there will be a physical release of the 'Chapter Two' score other than the "On Demand" version? The first film had an EU release, hopefully again? I figured this would be the best place to ask.
As I see the tracklist, Ritual of CHÜD and Spider Attack tracks are very promising, this chapter has more connection to the book than the first one? BUT, as I can remember (I am reading the book now) the used the ritual of chüd in both timeline, and the first movie did not contain it, so its very-very strange how they did it
I was listening to this on my way into work this morning. Its a nice lead on from the themes and feeling of the first score but seems, for me, a better listen on the whole. I'm a big fan of Mr Wallfisch and a big horror score fan but I really don't like the stinger and 'sound mush' approach to horror scenes. If you want to go atonal or 'sound design' Chris Young often carries it off masterfully or one of my personal favourites SESSION 9 by Climax Golden Twins, creates a wonderful unsettling mood. I don't ever find anything creepy in crescendo crashes all the time and i don't think it works much in films either apart from the obvious sudden jump effect. Mr Wallfisch's horror stuff for these scores ( apart from the use of the nursery rhyme) just never seems that interesting and I wish he'd have taken a different approach as i find him a very talented composer. ( wasn't a fan of his LIGHTS OUT score either for this reason) Apart from these moments there's some great stuff in the new score and the tracks that make up the whole last section particularly are terrific. Some great emotional moments again using the themes from the first film. Definitely happy with it and i think it'll get more plays from me than the first one. Just wish we could get better 'scary' music that unnerves you rather than just gives you an ear bashing.
Even though I like Benjamin Wallfishs " old school " scoring I found his first IT score very weak. Scoring a horror movie is a most delicate task .He just couldnt deliver it..he got trapped in the obvious. Eerie chidrens choir/ voices...soundscapes that conclude in a big BOOO! crescendo ..just like the movie...a fun ride for teenagers...I guess...but too much of a here comes the scare ghostride.
Saw the film tonight and absolutely loved it. Fantastic atmosphere of regret/sadness and nostalgia in between the clown attacks. Top class horror film, even if it was a retread of the first film. Looked great. Excellent set of actors to play the grownup Losers. Cool SK cameo and Thing shout out too. Score was also top notch, at times recalling classic Goldsmith and Chris Young to my ears. Lovely to hear the first chapter themes again. Can't wait to buy the CD.

The bigger stuff near the end reminded me of the Veg'r music from ST-TMP and some Poltergeist too. The Young stuff was just overall that lovely bittersweet/nostalgia music he used to do in the olden days of his horror scores.

I don't think any composer would be ALLOWED to write music for a horror film like that in this day and age. But the fact I got a whiff of scores like that during IT-2 tells me BW is trying his hardest to bring back the emotion and melody to his horror scores.

Mully is very involving and emotional. Summer In February (an older score) is lush and lovely. A Cure For Wellness has some strong moments too (I need to play that one more myself). Bhopal - A Prayer For Rain & Desert Dancer have some really nice moments in amongst the drony/ambient nature of their scores.
Also, Peter Pan (which sounds a million miles away from the way he writes nowadays), which is available digitally but the CD is hard to come by now.

I feel I'm repeating myself but again...what Kev said ! :-) I too loved THE ESCAPIST and often go back to it. I'd add in THE THIRTEENTH TALE for a sort of reflective 'ghostly' atmospheric score and, despite getting a lot of flack, I quite enjoyed the recent SERENITY. I still wish he'd not do the obvious 'horror build' stuff ( need to try LIGHTS OUT again but I was pretty disappointed with it) he's been doing recently but I still enjoy so much of what he writes.
