THE KARATE KID - 35th ANNIVERSARY: LIMITED EDITION
LLLCD 1520
Music by Bill Conti
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98

La-La Land Records and Sony Pictures proudly present the re-mastered reissue of acclaimed composer Bill Conti’s (ROCKY, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, ROCKY BALBOA), original motion picture score to the beloved 1984 classic THE KARATE KID, starring Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita and Elizabeth Shue, and directed by John G. Avildsen. Previously out of print, the legendary THE KARATE KID score returns, sounding better than ever - with all-new packaging featuring a cover illustration by artist Paul Shipper commissioned for the film’s 35th anniversary. The new, exclusive liner notes by Al Kaplan, include new interview comments from composer Conti, along with an introductory message from star Macchio. As with the film itself, Conti’s wonderful and perfectly-pitched score stands the test of time. It’s the film’s musical heart – beating with drama, excitement and inspiration to spare! Produced by Neil S. Bulk, mixed by Michael McDonald and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special limited edition CD release of 3000 units was sourced from studio vault elements and is expanded with additional music tracks, including the composer’s score for the film’s final fight, which was unused in the film. The high-kicking art design is by Dan Goldwasser. Banzai!

I wonder if the source for some tracks on the Varese release (which already sounds very good) were the film stems (with the final tracks, omitting the unused sections of the music).

I also find odd that in Part II the track "Daniel Leaves" in the Varese cuts so abruptly (like in the film) to the point I double checked if I had not received a defective disc but confirmed that that was the way it was. Sourced from film stems maybe?

maybe but could also be recorded that way

Williams did many of those recordings - to be added to another recording

in the film they are arupted by bell which could be reason to why the track ends abruply

I can't wait to hear Conti's unused fight music at the end, I have never heard it. I'm glad this score got the La La Land treatment!

Looks like I'll be adding another score to the list of scores I'm planning on double dipping on.

I've never been more excited for a less than 1 minute cue:
"Japanese Hand Clap (Opening With Overlay) 0:42"
I always loved the move version with the thunder like boom as Miyagi claps his hands together. When I received the first release (was it back in 2007?), I was longing for it. So, I'm hoping this will indeed be the movie version!

Then the new Lalaland has aprox. 4:30 min of additional score music (38:07 vs. 35:24 of the Varese minus the 1:56 demo song "Feel The Night").

I'm really surprised by this edition number. I could see 1500, 2000 max.

Ya know, when I first saw this was being released I was kind of like, "well that's cool for people who couldn't get the VS version, but I already have it so I'm good." But the more I think about it and read the comments here, them more excited I get. Due to the holidays, I'm not sure how much $$ I'll have to spend on things like this for myself but it's now definitely something I plan on getting, hopefully sooner than later.

Ordered TKK. even though I had VS box I had to part with when things got dire. Hopefully triple L will still have the disaster box set when I make a new order. I ended up getting it for $19.73 after a paypal offer. Sweep the leg

    Just listened to the samples...

Daniel’s Moment Of Truth (Alternate Take) 1:17

OMG! Thank God this alternate take ended up on the cutting room floor. Wow... the cheese!!!! big grin

I'm glad that it was included in this set though so we could hear what could've been.
