SEASON 2:

Season one has no credited composers.

NO LOADS FOUND.

This is the only effort for the series by Skinner.
Yes, I'm as disappointed as you that this one wasn't up.

"The Juan Ortega Story"
By: Laurindo Almeida

"The Jennifer Churchill Story"
By: Roy Webb

"The Tobias Jones Story"
By: Heinz Roemheld

"The Liam Fitzmorgan Story"
By: Roy Webb

"The Doctor Willoughby Story"
By: Heinz Roemheld

"The Bije Wilcox Story"
Music Score: David Raksin
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v2pjt

This is the only effort for the series by Raksin.

Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 7:32 in.
  • 25:28 in.
  • 36:15 in.
  • 45:15 in.
  • 47:09 in.
  • 48:37 in.

    "The Millie Davis Story"
    By: Roy Webb
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v2pjx

    Highlights:
  • 0:50 in.
  • 1:46 in.

That's nearly all of the episode score.

    "The Sakae Ito Story"
    Music Score: Tak Shinda
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rODpewTlcFI (sound is muffled; still better than dealing with Dailymotion)

This is the only effort for the series by Shinda.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 3:20 in.
  • 6:40 in.
  • 8:36 in.
  • Around 12:00 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

  • 38:52 in.
  • 41:13 in.
  • 47:02 in.

That's nearly all of the episode score.

I applaud the use of a foreign composer for an authentic Japanese sound rather than going with an imitation.

This is Shinda's only scoring credit according to his IMDb page.
    According to another website:
Shindo received his bachelor's degree in 1951 from Los Angeles City College and subsequently studied under film composer Miklós Rózsa at the University of Southern California.[4] Early in his career, Shindo worked on several television series, including service as the musical director for "Gunsmoke" and "Suspense."[5] He also composed theme music for "The Ed Sullivan Show," "Wagon Train," and "Adventure."

Funny you should mention those Williams-scored episodes. I love those. Here's my breakdown of those episodes from a previous thread (that is, if we're allowed to bring our own opinions to the table):

Amazing composers worked on this series, including John Williams (6 episodes or more?) and Jerry Goldsmith (2 episodes). I *gotta* believe there would be a market among Williams and Goldsmith fans for a box set of this series scores, with theirs (and maybe others by bigger-name composers) in complete form as well as some highlights of the other composers' work! (Hell, I want all the Roy Webb I can get, to be honest...)

I say bring on that "hefty beast." Four CDs booked together and released every few months might lead to us getting them all. (And lead to poverty, I'm sure.) I can't think of another TV show that had so many various and talented composers.

I think I'm burned out On tv westerns- esp.60 minute ones. You would have to strap me to a.chair CLOCKWORK style to get me to sit thru 90 minutes.
MAYBE I'll revisit the episodes scored by John and Jerry someday

Naw. With multiple Williams AND Goldsmith scores for the show (to say nothing of several other popular composers), no WAY it only sells 100 copies. These composers carry show releases like this.

I would certainly purchase a Wagon Train box set, and the same goes for Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, Bonanza, Riverboat, The Big Valley, classic western TV shows all!

What about "Cimarron Strip" (CBS' take on the 90 min western)? With terrific scores by Herrmann, Duning, Shores, Geller, Stevens, and a MT by Maurice Jarre, this would make a great 3-4 disk set (it only ran 1967-68 season), a collection I'd purchase in a heartbeat.

How about it La La Land, Intrada?

"Gunsmoke" had even even larger selection (and fantastic scores, too).

    Yavar, listen carefully.

    Only WILLIAMS is truly popular.*
Jerry is popular too, but not on long ago, obscure titles. Folks here generally buy Goldsmith music they are familiar with- like AFO.

    Trust me on.this.

    * he is THE BEATLES. Jerry is ROLLING STONES.smile

I don't think that's actually true. I think if we are talking about *obscure* works by either composer, Goldsmith has the more rabid hardcore fans who will buy anything with his name on it. I'm willing to bet that a Williams random TV title will not sell as well as a Goldsmith random TV title. I'm willing to even bet that a Williams 60s comedy score will not sell as well as a Goldsmith 60s comedy score. But I doubt either of us has any data to back up their theory. smile

    Continuing SEASON 2:

    "The Ben Courtney Story"
    Music Score: Herman Stein
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v2pka

This is the only effort for the series by Stein.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:37 in.
  • 9:07 in.
  • 15:47 in.
  • 17:00 in.
  • 19:35 in.
  • About 21:50 in.
  • 25:33 in.
  • 28:14 in.
  • 30:20 in.
  • 32:00 in.
  • 34:15 in.
  • 37:58 in.
  • About 47:10 in.

35:20 in: This actress wins the Calculon award for Unholy Acting Talent!

    "The Ella Lindstrom Story"
    By: Cyril J. Mockridge
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6n5nip

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • About 1:35 in.
  • 9:56 in.
  • 11:58 in.
  • 29:50 in.
  • 37:05 in.
  • 38:28 in.
  • 43:35 in.
  • 47:46 in.

    100% soft intimate cues.

    "The Last Man"
    By: Heinz Roemheld
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoiKgYJKOZ4

    Highlights:
  • 2:09 in.
  • 4:38 in.
  • 7:19 in.
  • 12:36 in.
  • 13:44 in.
  • 16:23 in.
  • 22:42 in.
  • 24:18 in.
  • 41:10 in.
  • 47:15 in.

    "The Old Man Charvanaugh Story"
    By: Daniele Amfitheatrof
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1diRwCxkt2Q

This is the only effort for the series by Amfitheatrof.

    Highlights:
  • 0:42 in. The title card music -- not the same as it has been on every episode I've done so far this season. And the cue that follows the title card.
  • 3:04 in.
  • 10:00 in.
  • 13:11 in.
  • 23:33 in. And the short cue after the commercial break (25:38 can be tagged onto this; very similar).
  • 29:53 in. And the cue after the commercial break, which could be edited together with it.
  • 33:33 in.
  • 37:44 in. And Fight music.
  • 47:13 in.

That's nearly the entire episode score. Very fine work.

It's a shame he didn't score more episodes. Looking at his IMDb credits, he only worked two TV series, for a total of two episodes (I'm not counting "Time Tunnel" since he's not credited, assuming it's not just tracked material and somebody incorrectly submitted him to the Composers section).

    NO LOAD FOUND.
    "The Annie Griffith Story"
    By: Lyn Murray

    "The Jasper Cato Story"
    By: Jerome Moross
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6z_bfQeQyk

    Highlights:
  • 1:05 in.
  • 8:40 in. And the short cue after the commercial break.
  • 18:38 in. Short dramatic cue.
  • 22:05 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 28:25 in. Joining a cue already in progress.
  • 29:27 in.
  • 31:42 in.
  • 33:33 in.
  • About 39:20 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

That's nearly the entire episode score. According to IMDb, he only scored five episodes (I will, of course, be double checking -- I find incorrect credits sometimes), which is not nearly enough based on this effort.

    "The Vivian Carter Story"
    By: Cyril J. Mockridge
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6n5iie

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 9:10 in.
  • 13:03 in.
  • 16:30 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 28:00 in.
  • 29:29 in.
  • 34:15 in.
  • 36:47 in.
  • 38:31 in.
  • 40:19 in.
  • 42:41 in.
  • About 45:50 in.
  • 47:51 in.

That's probably (counting source cues) approximately 75% of the episode score.

Out-of-context quote from the female guest star:
"I'm perfectly capable of handling myself."

    "The Conchita Vasquez Story"
    By: Laurindo Almeida
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQeRv6I69-8

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in. Character whistling along with the score!
  • 2:30 in.
  • 4:31 in.
  • 7:56 in.
  • 14:22 in.
  • 17:09 in.
  • 38:02 in.
  • 40:22 in.
  • 43:29 in.
  • 45:17 in.

    "The Sister Rita Story"
    By: Cyril J. Mockridge
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6x8qq2

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:08 in.
  • 11:14 in.
  • 16:11 in.
  • 22:33 in.
  • 24:43 in.
  • 27:13 in. Including some action music.
  • 29:21 in. That nun said nothing during that reunion, but for her brief facial expression and tears, she blew away most of the "actors"/"actresses" for the last two plus decades. And the brief cue after the commercial break.
  • 32:41 in.
  • 33:55 in. And the brief cue after the commercial break.
  • About 45:00 in.
  • 48:17 in.

    "The Matthew Lowry Story"
    By: Lyn Murray
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6n5hfl

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 4:11 in.
  • 12:15 in.
  • 16:54 in.
  • 20:42 in.
  • 24:21 in. Nearly FX-free montage cue (a little less than a minute long).
  • 25:50 in.
  • 30:30 in.
  • 31:58 in.
  • 34:38 in.
  • 36:10 in. Short cue.
  • 39:57 in. Including about a minute of nearly FX-free pizzicato-only work.
  • 41:59 in.
  • 44:44 in.
  • 45:57 in. Mostly SFX-free montage cue.
  • 47:21 in.

As with nearly every single episode score in this batch, this is nearly the entire score. Season two scoring is fantastic -- even a six-disc set wouldn't do it justice. Any set of season two scoring is going to be woefully inadequate.

I think this is the first episode this season to have an instrumental-only end credits theme.

    "The Swift Cloud Story"
    By: John Williams
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v2pkl

    Highlights:
  • 6:20 in.
  • 10:52 in.
  • 21:37 in.
  • 22:41 in.
  • 24:25 in.
  • 30:28 in.
  • 36:39 in.
  • 48:21 in.

The least satisfying episode score so far this season.

    "The Vincent Eaglewood Story"
    By: Cyril J. Mockridge
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v2pkq

    Highlights:
  • 2:11 in.
  • 24:27 in.
  • 29:05 in.
  • 30:50 in.
  • 37:39 in.
  • 40:25 in.
  • 47:12 in.
  • 48:32 in.

I actually had to look up if that was a young John Billingly guest-starring in this episode. Nope, an actor named Wally Cox ["Wally Cox (I)" on IMDb; more than one guy with that name].

Out-of-context quote from the series star...
    "I'll please you!!!"

  • 39:46 in.
  • 41:37 in.

    Speaking of Jerry...
Last nite I turned on the RADIO CLASSICS radio station. The next program was CBS RADIO WORKSHOP.
I was about to change the channel when the music started...a harmonica phrase( TWILIGHT ZONEish).

    That's Goldsmith I thought.
    I was right!

" The Storm" was the episode.

  • 19:07 in.
  • 24:12 in. Not too far from four minutes in length.
  • 36:30 in.
  • 38:15 in.
  • 40:22 in. Part of a "Rudy" theme.
  • 42:46 in.
  • 46:40 in.

    "The Steve Campden Story"
    By: Gerald Fried
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aB1BtreHQY

This is the only effort by Friend for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:44 in.
  • 2:18 in.
  • 7:47 in. Doesn't that sounds like it might have made a good "The A-Team"/ montage cue?
  • 12:32 in.
  • 21:58 in.
  • 27:32 in.
  • 37:57 in. And the cue after the commercial break (39:59 in: Do you also see the side fade of an ape in the mountain?).
  • 45:57 in.
  • 48:33 in.

That's nearly all of the score.

Certainly sounds like Friend was inspired some buy this episode. However, not a single episode score on the series received even a nomination for any award. This one should have at least gotten a nomination.

This was on TV a few days ago and is the score that inspired me to handle this series next.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:44 in. Including a funny scene with the coffee (continues after the cue ends, to about 2:53).
  • 4:01 in. Over three minutes long.
  • 10:44 in.
  • 13:32 in.
  • 21:11 in.
  • 24:31 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 28:03 in.
  • 30:16 in.
  • 34:53 in.
  • 42:01 in.
  • 4635 in.
  • 48:25 in.

That's all the score but two short cues.

Another score that should have at least gotten an award nomination.

    "The Jose Maria Moran Story"
By: Leo Shuken and Jack Hayes
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I41YQUMPh5c

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in. Now that's an exciting way to musically open an episode.
  • 1:32 in.
  • 10:10 in.
  • 18:48 in.
  • 20:10 in.
  • 22:07 in.
  • 30:30 in. Bouncy piece.
  • 32:45 in. And the short cue after the commercial break.
  • 42:16 in. More soft romantic music.
  • 44:44 in.
  • 48:17 in.

That's nearly every single cue. I think I only skipped one.

  • 32:00 in.
  • 33:52 in. Joining a cue already in progress.
  • 48:10 in.

    Another overall disappointing episode score.

    "The Jenny Tannen Story"
    By: John Williams
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6n5n9c

    Highlights:
  • 1:23 in. Obviously I'd want this without the singing.*
  • 4:19 in.
  • 11:38 in.
  • 13:02 in.
  • 27:34 in. The dining hall (Waltz?) source music.
  • 35:47 in.
  • About 38:15 in.
  • 45:26 in.
  • 47:42 in.

    * = Williams' first musical?

And that's that for the rest of the year. I'll pick the series back up after New Year's Day. I'll kindly fuck off for the remainder, watching cat videos and what not -- having some fun.
