DOLORES CLAIRBORNE: THE DELUXE EDITION 2CD (DANNY ELFMAN)

Albums will begin shipping the week of January 27th!

One of the most important and impressive film scores of Danny Elfman's career, Dolores Claiborne is an often overlooked and grossly under-appreciated score from the maestro. Not only does it depart from Elfman’s characteristic style both aurally and compositionally, but it also displays Elfman’s maturity as a filmmaker and storyteller using music to define, paint, and coax a psychological narrative.

Adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name and directed by Taylor Hackford, Dolores Claiborne is a psychological dramatic film in which most of the entire movie unfolds inside the characters’ minds. Most of what is said or done on screen is a giant red herring. What you see is not always what you get. As the narrative unfolds, various pieces of the puzzle are revealed one by one and Elfman’s score is right there to cajole each perfect piece into place.

This 2 CD Deluxe Edition greatly expands the soundtrack from 9 to 31 tracks!

If not his best score, it's in his top three. Everything he does in it is interesting.

Good score indeed, but the regular album works just fine.

And what's that HORRIBLY HUGE lettering on the cover's top??! That's not how The Deluxe Edition is supposed to be written. Please, the new people in charge of the label's design, follow the already well established line!

This is what happens when you let go of your art director of many years.

I think LLL's expanded release of The Edge has a terrible cover...doesn't make me enjoy listening to that release any less. wink

Personally I don't see what's so offensive about this one, except for OCD folks who object to the different font for "Deluxe Edition" (they just used the same font as the film title -- what's the big deal?) Otherwise isn't this just the same cover as the original album?

I'm sure there will be plenty of great new covers for this designed by folks in the Custom Covers thread, for iTunes use. (That's where I got good covers for The Edge and even Christopher Gordon's On the Beach... which was one of the worst original soundtrack covers of all time.) Until then let's just celebrate the music!

Oh wow! With this batch being only two titles. I wasn't expecting anything that would interest me. So I'll put this on the list.

I think the full score would have fit onto one CD, as it's 79 minutes, but the alternate tracks take things over.

If I'm not mistaken the liner notes for Elfman's Music For A Darkened Theatre Vol. 2 compilation he mentioned that he wrote 100 minutes of music for Dolores Claiborne.

I'm glad for the expansion, but that cover ... looks like one of those 1990's shoddy bootleg covers where somebody blew it up and made it look kind fuzzy/pixelated and did a quick amateurish font job.

Fuck yeah! I've had the promo release for ages (sent to me by Elfman through Lukas when I reviewed the initial Varese CD for FSM almost 25 years ago eek ), but will gladly upgrade for one of his best dramatic mid-90's efforts.

Hmmm...'Doolittle' or 'Dolores'? I've loved this music and the film since it premiered so long ago. This is worth the price asked, and I seldom buy new releases anymore. And aside: When I first moved to Montana, a woman came up to me in Missoula, and asked for directions to get her car and trailer washed. She was wearing sunglasses, but I instantly recognized the voice, it was Kathy Bates and I believe (at that time), she had a ranch up here. It was pleasant to talk with her, but I cut it short because her husband was standing nearby. Great Film Score, and WHY she didn't get an Oscar nomination for this role is a mystery!
