I was surprised to see that Mondo is releasing the expanded/complete score for Mission: Impossible 2 on vinyl only. Does this mean we could see a CD version in the near future?

LLL got the other two M:I entries that Mondo released on vinyl so here's hoping they get this one too.

Agreed. I would purchase a cd release of this in a heartbeat.

Wow, this came out of nowhere! There was a TON of music missing from the OST. This is an instant purchase

I think it goes without saying, great mimes think alike.

Looking at the track listing I don’t believe it is complete...

Maybe this is another topic but.
How popular is Vinyl to today's film music community? How many here own a turntable?
We got rid of ours around 1996, but hadn't been using it since 1989. I still love physical media, and I would like to return to Vinyl, but I lack the necessary space to store a collection.

I remember giving MI:2 repeated listens and enjoying most of it, but I do know I didn't like all of it. Perhaps it was a bad album presentation. I would be interested in hearing an expanded release if it ever came out on CD.
However I'd be even more stocked for a different expansion on a Hans Zimmer/Tom Cruise collaboration, that being The Last Samurai. wink

I have one and am looking to upgrade in the near future to a better one. I have 99.9% vintage LPs in my collection but did get one new film score album, "Godzilla King of the Monsters" by Bear McCreary. I had this feeling it would sound amazing on LP and it does.

[insert: yadda yadda yadda sounds the same or worse and lots of pops and crackles - well, it sounds f'n amazing]

Upon rewatch, it's apparent that the album was missing a TON of music. I'm sure it's a score that will benefit greatly from expansion

Definitely will get this but would prefer a CD release too which I will definitely buy if it gets a release.
I don't enjoy collecting vinyl as much as the CD's because I feel like the CD offers more in the linear notes and cover art. I like the Mondo stuff but they never have any linear notes so I never get as excited in collecting them.

The OST is a horrible representation of the score. Hope LLL releases this on CD.

Since Mondo produced the LP in conjunction with Hollywood Records maybe this is Intrada territory...

I never liked vinyls and to be honest its revival is beyond me. CD is much better option in my opinion, much more practical, more easy tu use and say whatever you want I even like CDs sound quality much more. I always hated the crackles and other sounds caused by dust or whatever during playing. When CDs came it was a big relief. So no vinyls ever for me!

As for M.I 2, I like the original album but would like to hear what more it can offer in an expanded form. Zimmer is one of the rare composers whose albums are most of the times interesting in expanded form because he writes so much music for each movie and many great cues/tracks are missing from the official releases.

The usual problem, of course, being that you don't know if Zimmer wrote those extra cues or not. That's not a swipe at Zimmer, just the facts.

Such a great score, the best in the M:I film series, IMO. And the packaging/design itself is stellar, as always from Mondo. Even if I hate the expanded aspect of this, and even if I already own the CD, this is weirdly tempting. I just need to hook up my turntable first. The price is on the hefty side, but I guess it takes dough to press up deluxe LPs like this.

More than you'd expect would be my guess, it's just not usually worth talking about on here, like a lot of things. I have a fair sized collection of score lp's, mostly old releases but i have a couple of new ones, including 2 from mondo - phantasm and scanners, both on the cheaper end of their scale being single disc releases. But they sound great, would recommend if you can afford.

Vinyl has been all the rage since the hipsters first re-appropriated the medium some 10(?) years ago or so. Now it's pretty much mainstream again, and the preferred medium when regular folks are buying music in physical format.
