purchased sometime in the mid nineties. I was still buying cassettes up till then.
No clue what the second one was.

I'd had the LP as a kid (first soundtrack ever bought new), and I was excited to hear it again on a state of the art medium.
Even without anything to directly compare it to I could tell the sound quality was lousy.

It was 2013 (I think) when I bought Quartet's Amityville Horror expansion and that's what really kicked off my adult collecting.

Mine was John Barry's Somewhere in Time (1980) ... purchased 03 Mar 86 ... approx. 2 months before I bought a CD player! I had no idea how these discs played and often looked at the disc, in the light, thinking it must sound better (clearer) than the poorly pressed MCA vinyl album.

It did ... but I replaced this MCA release with the newly issued BGO release in 2003 (prior to getting new Hi-Fi speakers) and then again a few months later when I discovered there was a Gold Ultimate Master Disc. Today, with much better Hi-Fi, this fabulous score sounds better than ever. smile

The Living Daylights by John Barry. Not a bad start. Even if he isn't credited...

My first CD was Silva Screen's DAMIEN—OMEN II in 1989.

I resisted the onslaught of CDs initially because I couldn't face the idea of buying everything all over again but by 1989 it was pretty clear LPs were going to give way to CDs.

Cheers

Once Upon a Time in America, if I remember correctly. The original release when it first came out. I recall the store guy at the till observing "one hell of a film" which has always stuck with me, because this was back in the days when the film was less well known, in the VHS rental days.

I'm pretty sure it was The Blue Max by Jerry Goldsmith on Varese Sarabande.
Not sure when... possibly late 1986 or 1987?

The Accidental Tourist, early in the new year of 1989. Went great with my first CD player.

It was Star Wars as well as it was the earliest CD on the market at that time 1997
