Either by the original composer or someone else. I'd be curious to know what you think? Thanks much in advance.smile

When you consider sound quality into the mix, I'd say "most of them".

I always thought that Williams' album re-recording of The Fury was better than the film's actual soundtrack. Better performance, better recording, superior experience all around.

"Fitzwilly", the 2 Flint lp's, "The Southern Star", and countless others, IMHO.

Probably the case with most OST re-recordings.

Definitely the 2 Flint albums! Not just the sound quality, but the selection of material, the editing out of repetitive and overly silly frills, and the overall whittling down to just the essence.

The absolutely stellar rerecordings of both Conan movies.

Quite a few of the Tadlow recordings are certainly better than the originals, especially Quo Vadis.

Tadlow's El Cid.

Bernstein Film Music Collection's Thief of Bagdad and To Kill A Mockingbird.

Rozsa's re-recordings of Ben-Hur and Quo Vadis from the 1970s.

Yup, plus the Patton re-recording. A lot of Tadlow's, The Alamo, Fall OF The Roman Empire, The Vikings. Rozsa's 70s recording of Quo Vadis, the Intrada Ivanhoe (Rosza), & a lot more.

The original soundtrack album recording of Patton. I was disappointed at how thin the actual film tracks were when FSM released them, but fortunately the Intrada edition provides both versions and in further improved sound. Either way, the re-recorded tracks are my go-to, especially for the Patton march which has never been bettered. Indeed, I'm always disappointed at how Goldsmith reworked the ending of the march for the concert version so instead of that brilliantly abrupt end that just leaves the echoplex trumpets, there's a short coda which gives it a more traditional style ending. Good but not as dramatic as the original.

Shout out to the RSNO re-recording which is still good, but a bit softer than the original, but a great companion version.

Tadlow’s QUO VADIS is a better recording and listening experience than Rozsa’ own fine 1970’s version.

As for those titles which were re-recorded by the composer and released as the official soundtrack album, I would agree with those who mentioned PATTON, CAPRICORN ONE and THE FURY. Those are the versions of these scores that I prefer to listen to. I would also add to list DAMIEN: OMEN II and, simply because there is no other alternative, UNDER FIRE.

In terms of re-recordings by others, the Tadlow performances of THE BLUE MAX and both CONAN scores I really love. Oh, and their marvelous recording of Goldsmith's THE SALAMANDER!

The Fred Steiner-conducted KING KONG is marvelous - it's just a shame it is incomplete.

The Marco Polo re-recording of OBJECTIVE BURMA! is so good, I never pine for an original soundtrack recording.

I would say most of the Monstrous Movie Music re-recordings are on par with or better than the original recordings. They're certainly the most faithful to the original sound.

Other re-recordings I greatly admire include the McNeely-conducted VERTIGO, Tadlow's PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, plus Broughton's renditions of IVANHOE and JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS.
