I guess they chose not to use the Goldsmith Theme from the movie. I never watched the show back in the day. Even though it seemed to have the exact costumes and look of the movie, it just felt cheap to me. MGM was milking it for what it was worth I guess. The Theme might be somewhat tolerable without that obnoxious siren effect.
It's a great theme and the "pew pew pew" was a fond childhood memory. The theme itself is great. I would love to hear it without the electronics.
The FSM Score CD is fabulous. For a short lived series, there were some wonderful scores. The series is a guilty pleasure with a couple of really good episodes. It's mostly mediocre though. Heather Menzies was not the best actor, but she was gorgeous. Donald Moffatt was the best of the bunch with his pre-Data android Rem character stealing scenes.
Sometimes it looked expensive but mostly it looked carboardy. The series was just a "Fugitive after the Holocaust" SF series that was no different than Planet of the Apes or the Genesis II/Planet Earth movies Gene Roddenberry tried to get off the ground. And they never seemed to get very far, returning to the city at least twice in a half season.
Could they have possibly mixed the synth siren ANY LOUDER???
I loved the theme from the first time I heard it, but even back in the 70s that siren was a WTF. As a subtle background "enhancement" maybe, but instead it's like a featured solo instrument.
I imagine the synth part being played just like what you see at the top of this video - the "Theme from Logan's Run" featuring Dennis DeYoung on Synth!
LOVE IT TNG! Rosenthal needs to see this. That freeken siren in the TV Version just kills it and your version with vocal and Uke makes it a thing of Beauty!

Agreed all the way! It was fine for a kid of the late Seventies that I used to be. Watched today, it is a fashion science fiction series influenced by the disco music trend of the era. The production values and the scripts belong to the late Sixties a la Star Trek. It has QM's The Fugitive template adapted to the Seventies as you mentioned.

The FSM album is one of my personal favorites that they've done. I quite like Rosenthal's theme. The siren effect works well, esp. paired with the drums near the end. The episode scores are enjoyable. The Bernstein vibe from Jeff Alexander's episode is a particular highlight.
One of my favorite TV series ever. Scoring is excellent, in particular Rosenthal's episodes but most of all Bruce Broughton's compositions. Definitely one of the best FSM cd. Thanks Lukas.
That was a fun album to produce. It was manageable because there were only a limited number of episodes with original scores. A lot of the music was fairly languid and subtle, and I remember working hard to fashion longer suites. Glad people still enjoy it!

I love this soundtrack too! Thanks so much for making an amazing CD that I still enjoy today.
This is one of my favorite FSM releases too. I remember seeing the premiere episode on a Friday night on CBS. Unfortunately, subsequent episodes were often preempted and CBS kept changing the broadcast schedule. As a result, the series didn't have a chance to develop an audience. It was a shame.
