So, I tried to search for threads like this and the search function was not working.

I have always been a Tangerine Dream fan. I recently just went into a huge deep dive of their music. Their album Rockoon has been on repeat for me over the last few weeks. Loved by the Sun (the many instrumental live versions) is one of my favorite tracks by them.

What are some of your favorite Tangerine Dream tracks?

I just spent some money on a bunch of TD songs/albums. I decided to treat myself. Something about the atmospheric and dynamic sound of their music is really hitting me well tonight. I am writing this at midnight. My creative juices are running on overdrive in my brain. I am in at a cross roads in my life romantically and journey wise. I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders and yet tonight their music is making me feel like everything will be alright.

I really want to see them live if they ever make their way back to the midwest when this pandemic finally lifts. Has anyone else here seen them live?

For me the best album they made is Phaedra.
It was recorded in their early days, but their first abums have great atmosphere and improvisation, especially live performances.
Nowadays it is no longer the same band. Just the name remained.
Thankfully once a while an old live performaces gets a proper release, it’s much more satifying, then their new albums.

They're one of the few electronic acts that seem to have a wide fan base even on reactionary FSM - which I'm grateful for. There are a million TD threads on the board, both about individual works and in general. I've always been a massive fan, and even did a (Norwegian-language) podcast episode a few years back, after Froese's passing:

http://celluloidtunes.no/celluloid-tunes-27-en-hyllest-til-edgar-froese-og-tangerine-dream/

I touch on some of my favourites in that episode (click 'playlist' below the player to view the selections).

Jon Aanensen also contributed an interview with ex-TD member Paul Haslinger awhile back (in English this time):

http://celluloidtunes.no/a-conversation-with-tangerine-dream-alumnus-paul-haslinger/

I guess if I were to make a top 5 FILM SCORES, it would look like this:

1. MIRACLE MILE
2. The Keep
3. Shy People
4. Firestarter
5. Thief/Risky Business

...or something.

I grew up midst the Froese/Franke/Schmoelling period, that will always remain TD for me. Followed them awhile with Haslinger, but then i gave up.

Been a huge TD fan since around 1980. I finally had the chance to see them a few years back when they played the Moogfest about 2 hours from me - but between the festival ticket prices ( way too high since I'd be going to one show only ) and my wife not wanting me to go alone but not going with me....i gave up and didn't go. It was Froese's last tour , of course.

roll eyes

Diamond Diary is my favorite TD track, their signature track in my opinion. Tangram Parts 1 & 2.
Love On A Real Train.
The opening track from the Poland album. No Man's Land. Crystal Voice from Firestarter. Thru Metamorphic Rocks. Rubycon. Phaedra.

Those are the first ones off the top of my head when thinking about favorites.

My favorite band/artist. Has been for 30 years.

Saw this concert live. Unfortunately without Edgar:

I caught them in 1986 on the Underwater Sunlight Tour when it was Froese, Franke and Haslinger (who would of course later go onto scoring Underworld)

Hyperborea might be my favorite TD track at the moment.

I’m still soaking up all the stuff in those two giant boxsets.

I didn’t realize there were so many variations of the band set up. That is fascinating.

I just got through The Endless Season and am
now going through One Night in Africa.

I really recommend Rockoon for anyone who loves that 70s/80s sound. Lifted Veil, especially the last minute and a half. I love the saxophone.

And Thor, I will give your review a watch.

Personally I think the scores for Sorcerer, Thief and Miracle Mile should be put in a vessel and preserved for all time as examples of humanity's greatest accomplishments. But that's just me.

The Soldier is a great companion score to Thief. Similar sound but much darker.

An Era that doesn't seem as appreciated are the Miramar years.

1992 Rockoon
1993 220 Volt Live
1994 Turn of the Tide
1995 Tyranny of Beauty
1995 Dream Mixes

All of the albums are some of my most listened to TD, with 220 Volt and Dream Mixes being in my top 20 most listened to albums I own.

I've got over 100 cds of their works, not counting the unmentionables that they released themselves. Close to 300 concert recordings, plus lps. I'm more into the Christopher Franke years and most of the works up until 1996. Had not found anything I liked until this recent lineup that seems to have recaptured the halcyon days. Your mileage may vary wink

QUANTUM GATE! Hopefully another will appear.

NEAR DARK was a gamble with modest reward.

Well, I'm standing by it lol. I will face the firing squad if I have to. I actually really like the album. When I do play it, I usually give it two listens in a row. I'm playing Lifted Veil right now.
