Here's a fun topic: I just got a bunch of CDs from Intrada and noticed the booklets all had different scents the second the case was opened:

Rio Conchos smells like HAY
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier smells like SPRAY PAINT / CRAYONS
Breakfast at Tiffany's smells like GREEN TEA
The Wind and the Lion smells like CHAMOMILE TEA

The paper is really thin for Star Trek, more than the others. Maybe someone who works in printmaking can explain the odors.

Anyone else notice this?

Ah!! the joys of opening a brand new CD and smelling the booklet. Most of my cds sort of retain these smells.

Yeah, especially when the liner notes stink.

Not so much anymore, but I remember this used to be a thing in the 90s. There was always a different scent between new CDs and used CDs.

Not so much anymore

That's because downloads are odor-less.

I think we've got a new thing to complain about, if all else fails and the release is otherwise perfect: does the booklet have the right smell?

Love the ink smell of a new release. Smells like ……. Victory.

I hope that other labels pick up on that idea. To give the booklets a scent to enhance the immersion while listening. But it has to be something from the film. Danny Elfmans Batman '89 should smell like the chemicals where the Joker fell into. Maybe is that the reason why Batman & Robin never gets a release. The booklet would smell like shit lol.

But seriously I never noticed a specific scent on a booklet.

It's funny that Rio Conchos (a Western) smelled like Hay and I thought maybe Green Tea was light and sophisticated for Breakfast (tea) at Tiffany's.

I guess between Hay, Chamomile, and Green Tea those are all earthy scents so it must be related to the ink/paper. But man, Star Trek V really smells painty.

I probably wouldn't have even thought about this if I wasn't opening all the new CDs one right after the other.

I have personally really enjoyed the scent of certain 4-disc holding cases, like the ones in the FSM MGM Treasury box set, or LLL's recent Irwin Allen sets. A very plastic-y kind of smell, and one that for reasons I can't see any logic in, I revel in.

Always thought my Original JAWS LP Album smelled a little fishy.

I think the Original WEST SIDE STORY Movie Soundtrack Album smelled like Russ Tamblyn's outerwear.

Start at 5:45 for Russ reference - Start at the beginning for Troy and Antoninous' intro by Martin Short.
