Two tracks from this upcoming score have been uploaded:

The score will be released next month: "Greenwood's The Power of the Dog soundtrack is out digitally November 17 via Lakeshore Records and Invada Records."

It will be interesting to see if Greenwood will get an Oscar nomination this year, for either this score or Spencer.

Your thoughts?

Having seen both films, not only does Greenwood have a very strong chance of being a double nominee, he has a strong chance of winning. His scores for both films make such significant contributions.

He will, at least, certainly be nominated for The Power Of The Dog as that film is likely to receive nominations across the board.

Sounds stark and sober, with a narrow dynamic range. Classic Greenwood. But I'm just as curious about a new Jane Campion movie as I am the score.

I no longer go to the movies. However, I will definitely keep an eye out for 'The Power of The Dog' when it's released on Blu-ray. Any film about MONTANA will get my attention, even 1920's Montana, which is only slightly different than present-day. I'm also a fan of Mr. Greenwood!

It's a Netflix film so don't expect a Blu-ray or any other physical release.

Hey Montana Dave, I can't wait to see this movie. Benedict Cumberbatch did state in interviews that he spent three weeks in Montana on dude or cowboy ranches to learn all about being a cowboy. However, he also added that the film was filmed in New Zealand. That does seem a bit strange.

Boring, un-engaging, and repetitive in a bad way.

I know nothing really about this new film, only that Jane Campion and Cumberbatch (in a Western no less) sounds like something I want to see, (and hear). Montana, New Zealand? Well, thanks for telling me Joan.

Jane Campion is a native New Zealander, for what it is worth. It's a country with an incredible amount of untouched landscapes, unlike most of America.

Just finished a first listen of this score. Wonderful, wonderful work again from Mr. Greenwood. Aaron Copeland influence throughout. Quite evocative and often idyllic.

From the trailers I've viewed, the land did look like Montana. Also, Lord Of The Rings was filmed in New Zealand which certainly showed some beautiful, "untouched landscapes."

Interestingly enough, I looked at the filming dates on IMDB, and the majority of it was completed before COVID, so it didn't shoot in NZ as a result of COVID. They filmed from January-April 2020 and then completed filming from June-July 2020.

I hope neither will have that ugly Netflix logo in the top left corner.

Alex Ross, the music critic of The New Yorker called the score (and film) "extraordinary".

He wrote this on Twitter:

"I saw Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog several days ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. An extraordinary film, with an extraordinary score by Jonny Greenwood. More on this topic soon..."

A wonderful response. I'm a fan of Ross, though I would assume he is controversial here at FSM considering he doesn't worship at the alter of our favorite film composers. The Rest is Noise is one of my favorite books on 20th Century History, especially through the lens of the music.

I just listened to this score and Spencer.

I give Greenwood some credit for venturing off the beaten path so to speak. I think it is refreshing. I say that even though I don't really return to his scores.

Unless I have missed something, this is probably Greenwood's year.
