Would be a very fine Black Friday title It just may be - curious what'd be new - would probably have the song from the 50th anniversary set - and I'm guessing all the songs from the original album. GNP Crescendo did an expanded version of First Contact several years ago (along with Generations and Insurrection). For my average listening ears at least, it sounds good enough. Would be a very fine Black Friday title The rumor of a newly expanded FC was first sparked after a 2019 podcast interview with Bruce Botnick when he said that he had just finished working on a new album. Neil Bulk (somewhere in the Summertime Star Trek TWOK thread) confirmed that Botnick misspoke. So no new First Contact album. IMHO, we don't really need it. That being said, I'm a Trekkie music Bitch, so would rebuy it IF one was to materialize. There's an FSM thread about it somewhere. The expanded GNP release is the complete film score plus at least two alternates (from memory; I'm not looking it up). For some folks that's fine, but for some like me, it's not enough. Aside from the fact that Ford says he likes to master the CD's for "the car test" (does it sound good in the car; a garbage way to master scores), there is more that can be included. There are at least three alternate cues worth having (I know, I know -- some people would probably like "variants" since there are not radically different), the songs (I can take or leave them, but I'd be disappointed if the Steppenwolf song isn't on there), the source music like the opera song Picard is listening to and the music playing in the holodeck-generated fine-dining restaurant the Borg step into, and I guess it's possible Jerry and/or Joel did some source music that wasn't used or not heard in full. The first contact scene is just beautiful in every way and Joel's take on his fathers main theme is the best action cue in this score. I currently try to get all 10 trek scores as expanded as possible but haven't any Picard ones yet. I got off early that day and went to see it by myself. I loved it, score and film! For some reason I cannot fathomed I saw First Contact in the theater by myself and really enjoyed it. It was part of a failed date though not bad date. We knew before the movie nothing was going to happen. Missed the first 10 minutes. I saw (and still enjoyed) Beavis and Butt-Head Do America instead.
