La-La Land Records and Universal Pictures proudly present the fourteenth title within the acclaimed Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection – VIDEODROME: LIMITED EDITION, music by renowned composer Howard Shore (LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, SE7EN, NAKED LUNCH). This limited edition CD release of Howard Shore’s original motion picture score to 1983’s big-screen, dramatic sci-fi thriller VIDEODROME, starring James Woods, Sonja Smits and Deborah Harry, and written and directed by David Cronenberg, features a remastered and restored presentation of the film’s notable score.

Another creative triumph in his long-running collaboration with writer/director David Cronenberg, composer Shore’s riveting work for VIDEODROME is a thrilling and experimental blend of synth and strings that expertly explores and weaves the film’s complex tapestry of psychological drama, eroticism, science fiction and politics together in haunting and seductive fashion. Produced by Howard Shore and Alan Frey and mastered by Simon Gibson at Abbey Road Studios, this limited CD release of 2000 units presents the restored film score and features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond, (featuring comments from the composer), and art direction by Dan Goldwasser.

Additionally, a Vinyl LP version is available for from Mondo and a Digital Download is forthcoming from Back Lot Music.

Been quite a while since LLL used the "complete score" language on a score release! Intriguing.

Awesome!!! Nothing like LORD OF THE RINGS, but this is like Shore's TERMINATOR before that film came out. Really interesting music and very curious to see how much new material has been added and how the sound improves.

Thank you LLL!! This was one of my favorites growing up - so wonderfully dark and brooding. I would never have thought an expansion would finally happen. Many thanks-

I am totally in!

A former friend of mine made me a copy and over the years, it got lost (as CD-Rs in paper sleeves often do). So I'm ecstatic to get a new (restored and expanded!) CD!

Must be what Shore or his people wanted? (Or possibly the studio, I guess.)

Congrats to LLL for landing this, as normally we might expect such an expansion to come from Shore's own label.

I'll bump up this worthy re-issue.

The original release somehow escaped me back in the day. I recently re-watched the film and found much in the score of interest. It's creepy as hell.

Bring it on!

Really looking forward to this as I often still play the original release. Wonder what the additional stuff might be considering my favourite track on the old album didn’t even seem to be in the film!

Crazy excited to see this Shore/Cronenberg gem! Came out of nowhere. As much as I've listened to the original album, I'm not certain what is missing or how much additional music there is. And if the release we currently have is mostly album arrangements or suites, will those be remastered and included as well? So great to see LLL's involvement in this. Now, if we could just get a proper release of Scanners and The Brood on CD...

This is what annoys me about buying soundtracks, you buy a 3-disc set you think it's definive and the last copy you'll need then bang they release it AGAIN, lol.

Well, I'm not buying Star Trek: TMP again but I'm intrigued by Videodrome. Is Somewhere in Time back in stock? Might be a twofer in the offing...

Things that should always be in print sometimes go out of print. I don't think there is anything annoying about labels re-releasing scores that find new audiences over time. Star Trek - The Motion Picture is now over 40 years old, it has been released on LP and CD various times, all editions now out of print. The 3CD set is the ultimat collector's box, while the 2CD set is now the official soundtrack to the soon to be (re-)released (and remastered) director's cut of the film.

I see no reason for me to rebuy STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE soundtrack (but I will buy the bluray of the film), but I'm happy it's re-released.

VIDEODROME I will get; I don't have that score yet.

As the kids are sayin' these days, I did not see this on my 2022 bingo card. In a good way. Will definitely pick this up! Thanks, LLL.

At the risk of sounding ungrateful by inquiring when this isn't even in the mail yet--I'm definitely not!--any chance we might see more Cronenberg/Shore releases?

ST:TMP was never definitive while the wind machine was missing.

Like a lot Shore's work, it's a score that really gets under your skin without using any horror score cliches. The breathing effects are still very striking. Be curious to see how much new music we're getting.

At 37 min. this release is only a little over 3 minutes longer than the 34 min. album.
I`ll get it for the remastered sound and chronological presentation. It is a moody score that may not please everyone but I like it and the movie (even if the movie is a mess in its final part).
