Hildur Guðnadóttir to Return for Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’
Hildur Guðnadóttir is returning to score the upcoming psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux. The sequel to the 2019 Joker film, for which the composer received her first Academy Award, is directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and Zazie Beetz who reprises her role of Sophie Dumond. They are joined by new cast members Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey. No plot details have been announced yet. Phillips (The Hangover, Old School) also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver (The Fighter, 8 Mile). Guðnadóttir’s score from the first Joker movie has been released by WaterTower Music. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released on October 4, 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

I really don't like anything by this composer: Haunting in Venice is awful, Battlefield 2042 is awful, Joker is awful, Women talking is awful. But, you know, when this new "masterpiece" is on Spotify I might change opinion.
The end of that trailer gave me chills. Spectacular!
I'm as worried as anyone about the notion of a "musical." Interviews and soundbytes from Todd Phillips (director) as recently as yesterday seem to imply that music is simply woven into the narrative much like the first film, as opposed to it being an outright musical. The fact that Guðnadóttir is scoring this sequel implies the same, at least to me.
If this IS going to be a musical, I've never been so excited to see a musical in my entire life.

She's won as many Oscars as Jerry Goldsmith so she must be good, right?

Oscars? Please explain the pattern between a great score and an Oscar that doesn't rely on haphazard reasons. Provide examples. Good luck.
