So, the fourth installment in the franchise is being filmed right now. From one of dragon53's film/TV news/trivia posts made today:
BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL FOLEY---photo released from the sequel in which Axel Foley teams up with his estranged daughter to investigate corruption in the Beverly Hills Police Department.
I'm guessing that they're are thankfully) ignoring the failed 2013 pilot with that terrible son of his character (scored by Robert Duncan; I made a suite of the score): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUa90i0i99U
No composer announcement as of yet. The director is Mark Molloy. While it would be nice to have Faltermeyer back (I'd even love Nile Rogers to get another shot), I don't see that happening in this day and age.
I have no idea what he did to give the studio faith he could direct a film in an existing franchise, given he's only directed short films and commercials beforehand, with one short sored by Volker Bertelmann.
No Faltermeyer, some daughter (pass-the-torch back-door spin-off maybe?), a director with no prior history that I am wondering will be way to susceptible to studio interference.
On the face of it, it's not looking to good.
No, if Eddie has more control over it, I suspect it'll be better than that awful pilot. Eddie was the only good thing about the pilot -- he's still got it as the character.
So is Faltermeyer definitely out? Dissapointing if thats the case.
Recent interview from a few days back with John Ashton saying Harold Faltermeyer is doing the music, at 11.16. Not sure whether he is mistaken as they could have been using temp music from the old films when he was viewing the footage, as he says he was doing ADR in post production. This film would automatically be improved by 50% by default if using Faltermeyer's themes, some Roland 808, Linndrums and arpeggiated synthesizers.
I enjoyed the original not so much the sequels, it will be interesting to see the reviews on the latest version, I suspect it was something of its time. I hope it is good and the soundtrack too is good, LLL release in 2024?
If it's one thing dragon53's posts over the years have shown us with quote from actors and directors, is that they express themselves very poorly, often in confusing ways that are hard to figure out.
And why should you? They sure didn't. If Balfe is smart he followed Faltermeyer using ONLY synths. If he did the hybrid orchestrations/electronics move, it's going to be trash.
