Hi all!

Just sharing this directly from my Facebook page. Hopefully, you'll enjoy the download this weekend and will find the new project to be an interesting one!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lpfilmmusic/record-jerry-goldsmiths-scores-for-pursuit-and-crawlspace

As hinted at a few weeks ago, it's a pleasure to be able to reveal the next Kickstarter project in the continuing series of Jerry Goldsmith re-recordings; the (often requested) scores from "Pursuit" and "Crawlspace" (both 1972).

Some consideration had to be given to the timing of this post as I'm more than aware that campaigns for film-music related projects are increasing in both number and frequency. This particular Kickstarter is not going to run until early September, so think of this simply as a "teaser".

A few details I *can* provide:

> The cost will be modest - recording sessions, manufacture, postage - that’s all (guesstimating between 11-15,000. Exact figures will be released when the campaign launches)

> Unlike GE Theater, this will be available in both digital & physical (single CD) formats, thanks to our dear friends at Intrada Records who will be handling production and distribution of the CDs from the outset. I'm extremely touched by their enthusiasm for the project and incredibly grateful for their participation and advice.

> The music will, of course, be recorded here in Prague, with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (we've some super rhythm players who occasionally record in Smecky - just perfect for "Pursuit"!)

> If the campaign exceeds expectations a third score will be added via a low-cost stretch goal

> This teaser comes with a freebie - watch the video on the YouTube page and, in the description, there's a link you can use to download a free lossless audio of the "Crawlspace - Main Title". There's a makeshift cover (which I put together) included but, to be perfectly honest, when I think of what Intrada would do with this the phrase "don't give up the day job" springs to mind..but the music is great, at least!

> Please feel free to send thanks to Smecky Music Studios, the control-room team and players from The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra who were amazingly generous in giving their time to get this promo cue recorded

That's probably enough waffle from me - please enjoy this new (premiere) recording of the "Main Title" from "Crawlspace"

Leigh, this sounds absolutely wonderful! Not familiar with either score, but the generously provided clip is great.

Very much looking forward to supporting this.

Nice cue and thanks to the people at Smecky for the time to do this. Even if the campaign fails, at least we have this.

Leigh is not only incredibly talented but also one of the most humble people I know. So with that in mind here are some extra details which Leigh was too humble to mention:

1. He reconstructed this Crawlspace Main Title purely by ear, listening to the film. Luckily for this score, every cue in the film appears to be treated well. Nothing getting dialed out or too obscured by other noises, as happened with one cue in The Man for example. I think Leigh nailed it 100%, because he's a master and this is also one of Jerry's more transparently orchestrated scores. That said, if anyone out there knows the whereabouts of the written music for Crawlspace, please speak up here in this thread or send us an email at mail (at) goldsmithodyssey (dot) com! I've been searching for over a year through multiple contacts, with no luck. It would save Leigh a lot of work, and we never know whether there might be a cue he wrote which went entirely unused in the film. That happened more rarely with TV, but you never know.

2. Leigh paid for this Main Title recording out-of-pocket, tacking it onto the end of some recording sessions he was working on earlier this year. And he just wanted to offer it as a free download to the community of Goldsmith fans, in addition to it serving as a great sales pitch to record the complete score later this year.

Oh man, I am so in. Pursuit, the first and only unreleased Goldsmith/Crichton.

Crichton's source novel, Binary, is quite good too.

Except for that ending.

Thanks, Zoob.

I held back mentioning Doug in the warm-up announcement. I just didn't feel it was time-appropriate since we're all still shocked and saddened at the loss of one of the most important people in our film-music community.

But he was aware of the new project and did hear the Main Title recording.

When the time feels right Leigh, I hope you can share that email Doug sent you about the Crawlspace main title recording. It was a particularly lovely and heartfelt note from him. But I understand waiting until later since the loss is still so raw and recent for all of us. frown

You took the words right out of my mouth, Jason. Leigh is doing such important work preserving Jerry’s legacy and expanding all of our collections with Goldsmith premieres we never thought we’d own, years ago. Much as Doug Fake did.

Thanks, Yavar! Yes, I'm hoping to share it when things are running properly and/when it feels like the right time

Interesting that you bring up the different title, which was also the original title of the film!

Thanks to our helpful friends at Neumation Music, we actually DO have access in written form to the opening cue of the score, "Meet Mr. Wright" (it's not a Main Title; fans of the score will already know that this first original Goldsmith cue doesn't actually show up until almost a quarter hour into the movie.) And it wasn't filed under "Pursuit" where they found it, but labeled as "Binary"! Unfortunately at the present time we only have that one cue as written music, so unless the remainder can be located Leigh may have to reconstruct the rest by ear just like Crawlspace. But even having one cue is great because it gives us the instrumental lineup. Also we have Jon Burlingame to thank for providing a cue sheet for the film, so even if Leigh has to reconstruct by ear we will at least have Jerry's original cue titles for the full score, unlike Crawlspace.

That's so nice to hear Leigh, thanks. I can see Doug smiling as he listened. Doug truly was amazing and you and he and your teams have brought so many treasures to us all over the years. I hope I can speak for so many in that we are so appreciative and simply in awe of all of your wonderful output! Thank you so much for your unending energy, dedication and incredible work. God Bless!
