So, I got home last night, and my cat and "something different" greeted me at the door.

That "something different" was an assault on my senses....something was totally amiss.

Then I placed it: Cat piss.

My cat had relieved herself on the floor of the bath off the entryway to my apartment. Her litter box was right there...relatively clean and free of remnants (having been cleaned the night before)...but she obviously did not like something about it or me.

And this had happened just moments before I walked into the apartment...fresh urine!

I was cleaning, disinfecting and scrubbing for the next 45 minutes.

She showed no remorse whatsoever.

Sigh.

You're very welcome.

I notice I forgot to mention that I settled myself in by listening to Morricone's "Mission to Mars" and North's "Cleopatra" -- music that soothed my ravaged breath!

I was going to say that these must really be the dog days of this 'board, but, well...you know.

So I won't.

Ron: I guess your cat is pissed at you.

An Australia, when a cat does its business in the living room area of the house, the Aussie's say: "Oh the cat's taken a poo on the carpet"!

Did anyone else's weekend totally suck?

First, I didn't get "Untamed" yet! Damn! I hate reading reactions to "subscription" CDs I haven't gotten yet.

Second, I broke down and did my taxes.

AUGHGHGHGHGHGH! I hate doing taxes.

If I didn't have to pay taxes, I wouldn't carry any debt whatsoever.

Third, just because!

Anyone know where "Piss Ant" or
"Piss Aunt" came from. My Step dad use to use
that "You piss ant" all the time.

Some folks I've encountered think that "piss ant" is a derivation of pismire ant...a "type" of ant.

Webster's does not make that assumption. Webster's defines "pissant" as "one that is insignficant - used as a generalized term of abuse; sometimes considered vulgar."

I heard "pissant" used frequently all my "formative years" in South Carolina.

I always took it to be a pejorative, simply because of the folks using it and how they used it.

I have never heard a friendly, non-committal "pissant" ever escape anyone's lips.

I know it's unusual to comment on something someone said on another thread, but....

On "'Untamed' Waxman", Beatty wrote:

<<It's a toss-up which is more headache-inducing:

The doctrinaire approbated by the philippic

or

The credulous pothered by the facetious.>>

To which I say, "Huh?"

But better yet, I'm all for any credulousness influenced by or resulting from facetiousness.

Life's too short...and my ability to affect is too minimal...to take much of anything very seriously.

It's all about the context, baby. And the paradigm. The beautiful, beautiful paradigm.

Ok, what am I missing? Why are we suddenly resurrecting so many threads from 2001?

Piss Ant/ Pissmire in current slang is the petty annoyance as you've guessed.
But it is a real ant. Both prefix and suffix are of Scandinavian origin and are not considered slang or vulgar.
The ants excrete a form of formic acid that smells like uric acid or urine. Hence the descriptor name.

This might be explained in Warner Bros, THEM. By Santa Claus no less. Edmond.... the guy from MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET.
It was explained in some movie about ants I've seen.
How many ant movies have I watched?
THEM
PHASE IV
THE NAKED JUNGLE
EMPIRE OF THE ANTS
A WONDER WOMAN episode where villianess Formicidia was bringing down buildings via ants. (That may have been it but I cant see Lynda Carter or Wonder Woman saying "piss" on TV.)

I would direct you to THEM.
