No mention of CD release, but what about a DVD release?
Also, is there a second season or was this just a one off?
There is to be a second season and Star Trek Voyager's Roxann Biggs-Dawson is lined up to direct one of the episodes.

Dan Goldwasser over at soundtrack.net said there was a CD release in the works.
The assumption, on my part, is Varese, and that it will be akin to the Alias score CDs.

I've watched the entire first season of LOST just this week (a friend of mine gave me a bunch of tapes and said to me "Watch it!") and I enjoyed this series a lot -- especially because I didn't have to wait one week to see another episode!  . I hope the writers will keep the tension and the suprises up to the (huge) expectations they've created so far.
Speaking about the music, I have to say that I was greatly impressed by Michael Giacchino's superb score. IMHO, he accomplished something really good and rare to these days: to create tension and suspense just and only through the orchestral textures and clever compositional devices, avoiding cheap tricks and predictable techniques. The spotting is also very careful and sensitive. What's interesting is that the music usually seems to rise from the sonic tapestry of the island and slowly grows until it reaches huge amount of tension. The quiet and lyrical moments are also well-crafted and never too syrupy -- I loved the lyrical, symphonic gestures in the pivotal final scenes of the penultimate episode, mainly because it sounded genuine, sincere and "earned" after creating so much musical tension in the previous episodes. By and large, the overall approach reminded me a lot of the great Jerry Goldsmith's scores of the 60's and 70's.
Considering also his brilliant work on the other JJ Abrams' show, ALIAS, Giacchino has given a new life and dignity to the art of television scoring. Let's hope he'll win the Emmy!

(I ALWAYS! ALWAYS! miss the first couple of episodes of each and every series! I don't know how or why, but I do.
...except for the X Files which I saw from the first one - in rerun...)

This isn't really the thread I wanted to resurrect in order to generally discuss Michael Giacchino's music for Lost, but after searching the keywords lost music, lost giacchino, lost michael giacchino, and lost score, surprisingly there isn't a really good comprehensive Lost music thread that I could find. I'm assuming they're scattered around but divided into different seasons or specifics. I could have tried to find a good thread to add on to by just searching lost, but that results in 12 pages of threads, so...no.
Anyway, I just had a general Lost comment, so here I am...I started rewatching the entire series from the beginning and am having an absolute blast revisiting this show. I watched the entire series when it first aired, and I've seen random episodes all over the place more than once, but I've never sat down from the beginning with the intent of rewatching the whole thing. Now that I'm doing it, I'm loving it. It's fascinating to go back and pick up clues and ideas (some used, some not, some crazy, some hot) and revisit story lines and characters I'd not thought about for a long time...most of this I haven't seen for 7 years.
Aaaaaaaaaanyway, I'm now going to say the greediest thing I have said in a long, long time: more Lost music needs to be released!!!  Seriously, I have all the score releases, love them all and have been a fan of Giacchino's work since the start (and before that on his brilliant Alias saga), but now...with all of the musical and series knowledge that I've gained, I'm listening to cues from the first season and hearing stuff that wasn't released that is just absolute dynamite! (watch out, Arzt)
It must have been hell selecting cues for the CDs, because not surprisingly there is such a wealth of brilliant material unreleased, and I'm only specifically referring to the first season at this point! I'm about to start the final season 1 episodes ("Exodus") and so far, for the first season, I am aurally salivating at all of this exciting, touching, glorious music that has not been released. Some of it is fresh in relation to the CDs, some of it is of course any number of variations on the collection of themes and motifs, but it's all good.
Just wanted to share my quasi-rediscovery of "lost" Lost music! Can't wait to continue the journey and shed more tears knowing that only approximately 12 hours of this landmark masterpiece of a series score has been released!
