The (3?) score tracks on the album are top-notch Bernstein. Well, my favorite kind of Bernstein, anyway. "Rudy Wins the Race" is some seriously inspiring music. I'd buy a score album in a heartbeat. Never seen the film. But Murray and Reitman in their prime... I'm sure I could find things to like about it.

Heck, Blues Brothers only has one track "God Music", which is a few seconds in the film. How about An American Werewolf in London while we're dreaming? Airplane sure would be nice one day too.

"Are you ready for The Summer?" Yes, yes I am. This tune's been rolling around in the back of my mind since '79, when everyone was seeing Meatballs for the 57th time. No one understood why, they just went, again and again, because It Just Didn't Matter! All jokes about "mystery meat" aside, I cannot separate Bernstein's score from the nostalgia that's seeped into my experience of seeing this film again after so many years. Every other dude, back in the day, had--seemingly--cribbed his entire personality from Bill Murray's shtick from this film. The unoriginal ones, at least. Regarding the score, a more objective viewer might help. But I can't describe how much of a hoot it was to hear hear Bernstein's quoting of the "Are you ready" theme throughout; so familiar it was like I was back in that theater, during that Summer, watching that film, Meatballs...eating many of same, whole, from a large, piping hot and sauced bowlful I'd smuggled into the theater under my shirt. Just kidding. I never snack during films and am fairly slim. --Coop

What do you guys think of the soundtrack? It just doesn't matter! It just doesn't matter! It just . . . etc. I was pleasantly surprised to get such a great "Stripes" CD, so who knows? What entity controls the rights on this one, though?

Does that mean that the three score tracks on the LP have dialogue on them? As much as I dislike dialogue intruding on score cuts, if said dialogue is stuff like Bill Murray's "you're Wudy the Wabbit" rant, I'll gladly still purchase a CD reissue of the album.

When & who is going to release this wonderful score & soundtrack? I can see this being a 2-CD release. Disc 1: Full score, Disc 2: soundtrack LP I believe someone said LaLa-Land was looking into this? I want this too and the last window for a release was when Sony did their Special Edition DVD back in 2007 or so. I was hoping that the original album would be reissued but it never happend. There's a couple of issues with this holding this up and the artists on the original album are part of that which is why Heavy Metal took way too long (like 15 years) to be released on CD back in 1996. The other issue is where Elmer's lovely score was recorded. The end credits state the music was recorded at Manta Studios which was in Toronto (since the film was made in Canada) then that's a Union orchestra score pretty much like Cliff Eidelman's Free Willy 3, Georges Delerue's Agnes of God and the late Jerry Fielding's Funeral Home, which was a costly Intrada release when it came out at 30 dollars. You also don't probably need a 2 disc set since Bernstein's score probably runs at least 45 Minutes at most and there's plenty of room for the songs to be included unless there are alternates of Bernstein's music and the songs since the film had alot of material deleted from it's original 2 hour version which sadly did not survive to be put on the Sony DVD. I hope that it does come out one day despite all this. Who knows, maybe it's in the works!

I know it's heresy to say this on a film music board, but my favorite thing from MEATBALLS (musically or otherwise) is the Mary MacGregor song "Good Friend."
