Jesus! Does this mean that Goldsmith would've written against a Horner temp track which itself sounded like a temp track emulation of something from Goldsmith's Outland? The authentic maestro would not be pleased, me thinks.

Only in Hollywood! big grin

You are talking about the score from the new deluxe BlueRay edition of TOTAL RECALL where they completely threw out the Goldsmith score and replaced it with a more comporary sounding by Ramin Djawadi.

Paul Verhoeven is saying on the director's comment that he always thought Goldsmith's music was crap but he was afraid to tell him because Goldsmith was not very open to criticism.

At one time Verhoeven thought of re-scoring it with Yared's TROY because he was very fond of this music. His friendship with Wolfgang Petersen broke up when Horner came in. That's the reason why Horner never scored a picture for Verhoeven.

If you plug on the speakers of your PC you will hear a laughing track like on TV. If this will not work out, consult your doctor or pharmacist for your sense of humor.

The Hungarian version of the movie lifts elements of completely unrelated movies. I seem to recall they put in some Gremlins music in that one, but Hungarian movies do lots of crazy stuff (El Cid is full of music from Ben-Hur).

No ...he is DEAD serious as I also heard that directly from Verhoevens mouth...
He told me that in Dutch, so I dont know if I translated it right thou... confused

It is obviously a workprint version where they had Aliens etc music to test the movie (as all movies do before official release)
Often the last thing they do before completing a movie, is making the music to it, and thats why the other music so they could edit the movie down in flow before the final result with the Goldsmith music...
I have Halloween Resurrection (entitled halloween Homecoming) with music from Deep Blue Sea and Danny Lux final music doesnt sound anyway near Deep Blue Sea...

TOTAL RECALL
I have the rough cut of this movie on VHS Tape and the music is temporary
but to suggest that Verhoeven would replace Jerry's music is ridiculous
Jerry and Paul got on very well together and Verhoeven always spoke his mind even to Jerry, if he did not like a cue.

I have no doubt there is a workprint of the film with alternate music, but darkgabeman's Verhoven story just doesn't fly. At which point did Elvis walk into the room holding bigfoot's hand?

That's the reason why Horner never scored a picture for Verhoeven.

You mean the reason why Horner didn't score the one film that Verhoeven did after Troy came out? roll eyes
