With the advent of this new digital streaming age where I can now watch tons of television uninterrupted via Netflix Streaming, I've been enjoying the much-troubled production SeaQuest DSV. Only the 1990s could make something so optimistic and production expensive as this fun-as-heck underwater Star Trek.

And yet - we only have one (old) Varese release for this series. It had four Emmy nominations for music (winning for the theme, which owes a lot to Silvestri's The Abyss but in the most pleasing way possible) and yet all we have is 40 minutes for three seasons of great music.

Anyone else interested in this?

I've never seen the show, but I had the CD many years ago (before I gave it away in a trade or sale or something). It was pretty orchestral music, I guess, but I remember being somewhat underwhelmed by it overall. Not only because of the Williams pastiche without the finesse, but also because it never seemed to go anywhere (except for the main theme). Don't know how I would feel about it today. I would be willing to give it a second chance.

I'm most impressed by Don Davis' Emmy Award winning scores. It was based on these that the Wachowski Brothers wanted him for The Matrix.

Perhaps Varese will follow up their Deluxe Matrix presentation with a box set of Seaquest music.

I have this one. It has only 29 minutes of music (and some change) and there's nothing at all by Davis or Landau (unless you count Davis's credit as orchestrator.)

For an episodic television score there is some ambitious writing, but the orchestral sound is noticeably smaller, and the amount of content is just too paltry.

Treading carefully, there is an unmentionable recording of Davis' contribution, which serves to whet the appetite, and I'm sure this promise must shine through on the DVD's (which I don't yet have).

I always liked this show even the 3rd season. I have Season 1 on DVD but still need to buy Season 2. I too have the OST and the unmentionable. I too wish we get more SeaQuest music in the future. I'd love a complete release of the original pilot episode by Debney. There was a lot of good music left off that.

I found an old Seaquest thread on MovieMusic.com, and in it there is a link for Russ Landau's website...

http://landau.filmmusic.com/

He was the series 3 composer.

But when you visit it, its a Shirley Walker website ?.

I'm confused.

I watched this show only sporadically. SeaQuest came out at a time when there was a glut of scifi/genre shows on the telly - the two Star Treks, B5, Earth 2, Earth: Final Conflict, Space: Above and Beyond, Stargate SG-1, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sliders, etc etc - and in the normal course of prioritizing things, it just fell to the bottom of the list.

Voyage to the Bottom of the List... But that's another era.

I know what you mean, SciFi's a bit thin on the ground these days. Battlestar only has 3 more weeks to go (in the UK at least). Maybe after the new Star Trek Film is a smash-hit.... who knows.

I know its a SciFi comedy, but I'm a Eureka fan too, and was quite surprised at Nathan Stark's fate last night. A bit harder-edged than I've been used to.

Erm... these days, if you're looking for a "celebrity site", I'd have thought the first thing to try is http://www.russlandau.com ...and by golly, it works.

40 minutes? The CD is just under 30 minutes (had this come out today I'm sure it would have been longer). Were 10 more minutes from later on put out somehow, somewhere?

I'd be up for another album; how about it, La-La Land?

Not quite sure why it took me 19 years to pick this up but it was worth the wait. I don't think anymore SeaQuest will be on Varese's radar but hopefully La-La Land have some more 90's TV goodness up their sleeve.

Uhtred, I fell in love with those utopian themes, what a gorgeous score. I need to get a copy for myself. And you know, the show was actually quite good that first year, terrific production design and not bad stories, by the third year it kinda got stupid. It was a squandered opportunity, but an interesting one. I would love an expanded score.

I completely agree about the show but I have fond memories of the first season. I love this CD but some of it sounds to me quite like Dennis McCarthy's work from Star Trek The Next Generation. I wonder if it was a directive to imitate Next Generation's music like so much else from that series was borrowed?

I was more of the mind that the second year got pretty dopey, in a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea way - aliens, attaching plants, giant monsters, etc. The third season was a LOT better in terms of tone and direction. The first season was amazing - loved it. The music was excellent and some of the best TV scoring of the era. The third season the music was iffy. I enjoyed the new theme music a lot, but overall it was too "synthy" for my taste. But I'll take any SeaQuest music as it comes. A great series.

I've been listening to this pretty much non stop since last year. This can't be all we get, can it?

Great score, and one of the few Varese 30-minute CDs that I'd love to see an expansion for.

Come on Varese, stop being so selfish and hoarding all your titles, and licence some stuff to the other labels if you're not going to expand them yourselves.

Just wanted to bump this thread to see if there was any more fans looking for an expanded SeaQuest release.

I'm still getting over the fact that the dolphin in the show was actually a robot. Did not realize that for several years later - but very happy to hear that was the case.
