Geoffrey Burgon. I second this. Have many of his albums and love his music. I was saddened to hear of his recent passing.

"Underrated" is hard to define, and very relative. There are so many great composers who never seem to really get discussed much, but who have had solid careers (John Scott, Michael J. Lewis etc etc) and are/ were very respected in the business. It's only a small handful who reach the popular heights of Williams and Goldsmith. Some would say it's the films they work on. I could mention people like Paul Chihara, but if you do a bit of research you see that they are involved in many activities related to teaching, writing etc. Same goes for Fred Karlin. I'd also mention Elisabeth Lutyens. She was never as popular as Jerry Goldsmith, but she scored only a handful of low-budget '60s horrors and was "in demand" for a while in that field. But outside film, everybody knows her as a composer of classical works. So it's a bit complicated. HOWEVER, being aware that I have spoiled this thread with boring pomposity, and still standing by what I have said, I'll mention - Leith Stevens, Herschel Burke Gilbert, Marlin Skiles, Basil Kirchin, Gil Mellé, Oliver Nelson, Robert Prince, .... but I have to go to work now. Bye! Seeya!

I would agree with Michael J Lewis. Charles Bernstein. Fred Karlin Also with Morricone outside europe, and Jarre too. The other one that doesnt get the credit he should is Ron Goodwin.
