Ah, thanks. Yes, apparently got the wrong David Lee. Correcting now.

I must completely have missed the bit about Patrick Williams passing away. Shame on me. That leaves only Carlos for 1939, then.

Perhaps add Tony Hatch for 1939? A HUGE name in music history, and with some very recognisable TV themes to his name (my favourite from him is THE CHAMPIONS, although there's not much competition). I see he did a couple of films, including SWEENEY 2!

I would add Sofia Gubaidulina (born 1931) who is most known for her classical music, but she has also scored more than 30 films.

Reverbereri died a month ago, as mentioned above. But added the other suggestions, thanks.

I feel 85. Does that count?

He, he. The toils and tribulations of a composer's work hours will do that to you.

Gian Franco Reverberi died a month ago, but I am not aware that his younger brother Gian Piero Reverberi has passed. They composed most of their scores together.

Franco Micalizzi is still kind of active, although I am unsure if the recently credited scores or albums were really recorded recently, or are re-using music from several years ago.

Thanks. Set his status to 'still active' with a question mark.

And sorry, slint, I read the name too quickly. Didn't realize Reverberi had a film composer brother. Added now.

Richard M. Sherman, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago, is taken off the list.

So is Doug Goodwin, who apparently passed away exactly one year ago today.

Other than that, everyone else on the list is going strong, as far as I can tell. *knock on wood*

Am I going mad, or is US composer Dick DeBenedictis missing? He's 89.

Also US composer Jonathan Tunick. 86.

Both scored Columbo, which is why I just looked them up.

Steve Reich, Terry Riley, and Arvo Pärt are missing from the list. Not sure how many films they have scored, but they have at least had a little film music activity in their careers so they should count.

Thanks, I'll add them. Wasn't Tunick the guy who did BIRD CAGE or whatever that movie was called? I think that's my only connection to him.

Before I add them -- how many original film or TV scores have Reich, Riley and Pärt written, respectively? IMDB is never a source to trust on this, as many titles given under composer are actually uses of existing music. I know that the late Penderecki did several Polish films early in his career, but the most famous uses of his music in film were/are all existing pieces, much like those three.

Indeed, if someone knows any original film scores by these composers, I'd be very interested to hear them. I'm familiar enough with these composers to say that all music I've heard from them so far in films has been re-use of existing music, but if there are any unreleased scores, I'd be very keen to add them to my collection !

I don't know how many film scores they have written, but on YouTube you can find some excerpts from some obscure films they have scored (though I don't have the time to dig them up). There was also a Museum of Modern Art retrospective for the Avant-Garde Film Score a number of years ago which featured films scored by them I think. I don't think that most of their film scores have been released. There are some rare exceptions such as Terry Riley's The Gift though.

Yes, most of their use of music in film is re-use of existing music, but they have all scored a number of films (I just don't have a reliable source on how many).

Alright, I've added them. There are other people on the list whose film scoring careers are meager, after all. But would be neat to know more about their film score gigs. I couldn't find any info on the Riley-scored film THE GIFT anywhere, but it's apparently from 1963.

Terry Riley's film music for The Gift is available to listen to on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/7hc1PhGU3ZeMb9xkAHH9Su?si=z6dDOWU-QGGz8NK2p0QHNQ

The film is probably not even listed on IMDB: it's a really obscure film that I don't know anything about.

Edit: I'm now reading that it might be music for an experimental theatre-play or something, but another site say it's for a film. I have no idea what's correct, in any case Riley scored a François Girard movie in 2017, and has scored some more films too (I just don't have a reliable source on how many).

I added Bruce Smeaton to the list.
