I know the answer to this! The credits ONLY need to reflect music that appears in the Main Title cue and in the End Title cue. The Goldsmith theme appears in the MT, which is why it is credited. The Steiner theme does NOT appear in main title, which is why it is not. So by that logic, the Chattaway theme must appear in the main title! I've heard it many, many, many times at this point, and I cannot point it out to you, honestly, but CBS Legal says that its in there, so legally, it is! The first one or two episodes of PICARD actually aired without the Jay Chattaway credit, but then the post production team had to go back and re-deliver those episodes with the adjusted credit. So... there we are!

So... there we are! There's a youtube video that I caught on Twitter that shows how a Chattaway melody from "The Inner Light" forms the basis of Russo's main title theme. It isn't the main "Inner Light" theme that everyone knows and loves, it's played only in the background during the episode, by Picard's son, who is practicing on that flute.

Sorry, but forget about Chattaway and McCarthy, I really like Jeff Russo's music to Star Trek Discovery and Picard series. It's very emotional and non-boring like those two's (and others) music to TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise (Sorry). That being said I've heard rumours that there will be other Star Trek series in the future. Couldn't the only composer I liked previously,Ron Jones, be given a shot at one of those if he wanted it? Any chance he would be asked and if so would he want the job? Ron Jones has pretty much retired, unfortunately, seeing as how he doesn't live in LA anymore either, but regardless his style of composition is probably still too bombastic and interesting for the newest Trek series. I've enjoyed much of Russo's music for DSC and Picard, but I actually find too timid at times. Chattaway and McCarthy both provided exciting and emotional scores when allowed and worked with sounds like a larger-sized orchestra. There is an overall richer sound to McCarthy's sound that I enjoy and I don't care what anyone thinks, the cue "He's Toast" from "Life Support' and the entire score for "The Visitor" are incredibly emotional and moving.

That credit is there every week? (I watch with a family who is very anti-credits.) Even if my family were anti-credits -- which it decidedly is not -- I would still watch the credits. No way my family could -- not matter whether parental or spousal or whatever -- could keep me from watching credits. They'd have to kill me, and I won't give in easily in a tight, close-quartered skirmish.

I share similar opinions of Russo's music--especially in the back half of Season 1 and particularly the last episode. And I agree that, while pushing sappiness and melodrama a bit too much, the ending was perfect for THAT relationship. While I imagine there will be some impassioned debate over the resolution of Jean-Luc's story arc for this season, I wish I could express just how affecting that other character's story arc was, but y'know...spoilers. Now that the season is over, I'm really hoping that I wake up tomorrow morning to find Season 1: Volume 2 available on Google Play Music. Close, April 3. Although the arrangement of Blue Skies that was sung by Isa Briones (Dahj/Soji) is already available as a single.
