Question:
For the listing of Volume 6, there is a line about “forthcoming volumes”. Is that a mistaken line that was carried over from the descriptions for Volumes 1-5? Or can we indeed expect a volume 7?

Probably a mistake but hoping this means they struck a deal to release the remainder of the music from the box set! Maybe this sold so well they found it economically feasible to pay the additional licensing fees.

That would be SWEET. When the boxset came out, money was extremely tight so dropping $$ for the set was not feasible. But $$ is a bit better now, and the "payments"(for each individual volume) are more spread out so I was able to get all of these. Would love to own all of the content from the box though.

So their original mega box set was 15 CDs, including definitive remastered/expanded editions of the GNP-controlled TOS scores (only "The Cage", "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "The Doomsday Machine", and "Amok Time" -- apparently they didn't get perpetuity rights on their Vol. 3 "Shore Leave" and "The Naked Time"). To me it looks like they've done pretty amazing job re-arranging and condensing all the non-GNP stuff into 12 CDs rather than 13. (I realize they are leaving out some songs and such, which will remain exclusive to the big box set.)

Maybe if LLL worked out a deal with GNP, there can be a seventh volume after all containing the definitive versions of those four iconic scores. Perhaps if they were to price such a final 2CD set at $40 rather than $32 that additional $8 per unit would be enough to cover the additional expense of sub-licensing from GNP.

Would those remaining GNP scores fit on 2 CDs?

I think so. The original GNP albums were only 43 minutes (Volume 1/the two pilots) and 52.5 minutes (Volume 2/Doomsday Machine & Amok Time) respectively. Even expanded presentations of all four scores (plus library music based on them, maybe?) should be able to fit on two packed CDs.

That would be a triumph if it could happen. But if it’s not to be, I understand the reasons why too.

So if this was the last planned volume, any chance for more TNG-era? wink

Whatever La-La decides to do I'll be there to purchase the releases if they happen. Any "Star Trek" music deserves to be in print!

Would be nice if the contents of the Ron Jones box received similar 1701 editions. Would take 7 volumes (The Best of Both Worlds would get omitted again), or perhaps just 6 if the videogame scores were omitted, and the alternates (perhaps just some of them?) spread around the other CDs.

LLAP

MV

Had to look it up!

"Laughing Loudly And Pooping"??

The description for Volume 6 says "this limited edition 2-CD release of 1701 units, as well as forthcoming volumes of this series..."

What "forthcoming" volumes? I thought 6 volumes completed the series.

Edit: Already asked. Though I don't see an answer.

Personally I hope for more DS9/Voyager music. Yes I know what’s been said in the past but…here’s hoping.

I hope too for more DS9, but I prefer TV-shows from which nearly nothing had been released until now ("It Takes A Thief", "Ironside", "Columbo", "The Rockford Files", "Magnum, p.i.", "The Fall Guy", "The A-Team" & "Airwolf" for example).

Oh well. I thought it might be too good to be true. Collection complete for now. Hopefully the door is open for either licensing from GNP or for GNP to reissue those scores themselves with the new masters.

If you have the new LLL volumes and you are completing them with the old GNP CDs, you are in fantastic shape.

All GNP Vol. 1 really needs is "Monster Illusion" added to "The Cage," and then Kirk's big fistfight with Mitchell added to WNMHGB ("Hurry, you haven't much time"). That's two cues, which you could record as DVD sound clips, or consult with friends about.

"Amok Time" and "The Doomsday Machine" are wholly satisfying as is on GNP Vol. 2.

And that's it. The GNP CDs can still be found, or you can buy downloads on the "iTunes for Windows" app. I think they're worth it if you missed the big box.

I have the GNP CD's and they are very nice. Just the collector in me would've liked to have all the box set music in this release. But we knew up front that wasn't going to happen. So we knew the deal going in. The error in copy just gave us a little hope.
