Second email from SAE: "Hi and Varese will need a few weeks to get new stock so we'll send you a note when back in stock. No need to reorder at our site." I just played the CD for the first time today and all 34 tracks play without fault.

It's good they are replacing the batch; one thing is for sure though: one has to be careful buying CITY HALL on the secondary market. I'm sure a lot of the bad discs will turn up in 2nd hand retail/eBay etc.

For what it's worth the product page on Varese's website now lists the CITY HALL release date as September 1, 2023. Assume they anticipate that will be when they will have the re-pressed (hopefully corrected) copies ready to ship.

Received mine from Intrada and yep, the blob is present. Tried to rip and got nothing, switched to my bluray drive and reduced the speed down to 4x and somehow I have a clean rip. Oddly, when I try and play the disc normally however, it skips and jumps through the first few tracks. Has anyone messaged Intrada to see what they are doing. So long as they are receiving replacements then I'm happy to wait until my next order to save Intrada the additional postage costs. Same. I just fired off an email to Intrada. I'll report back on what they say.

Jeff at Intrada sent me the following: "Varese has said that they will be sending replacement discs automatically to everyone who ordered City Hall, which means they will be sending replacement discs to us when they are ready. From there, we will be sending the discs to everyone who ordered it, or including it in a future order."

Just received my copy from Intrada. It just skips and jumps its way through the first track. Basically unplayable! Couldn't rip the first track in EAC at all! Yeah that's pretty much it. Haven't really encountered an issue like this since I started collecting CD's In 1985. Oh, I have. It's rare, but it happens. I bought a complete set of Vaughan-Williams symphonies conducted by Leonard Slatkin not too long ago, used on eBay for a good price. One of the CDs could not play, it was severely skipping and jumping and refused to play in any CD player I put it in. I was also unable to rip it. The CD looked pristine, there were no visible scratches, marks or anything. So it came like that out of the box. Fortunately, I was able to replace that disc (I bought this disc as stand alone on eBay, to have the set complete). I also purchased the BASIC INSTINCT double CD from Quartet in 2015 from Intrada. Disc 1 had a severe defect and the last track would play only with lots of digital clicks, it could also not be ripped accurately. Unfortunately, I did not notice it right away, and when I contacted both Intrada and Quartet about it a couple of years later, they did not have a replacement disc anymore. Well, tough luck. When BASIC INSTINCT was re-issued in 2021, Intrada was kind enough to send me a replacement disc, so I can eventually, I got my BASIC INSTINCT set! Talk about terrific customer service, Intrada is as good as it gets.

Since it has been a long time since I saw the film can someone tell me if there is a big difference between the film version of the score and the OST tracks? If you have the OST is it worth to buy this edition? This is a little rough, from quick notes I made when it arrived: Wholly new cues (7:17) The Bridge (Film Version) Find Vinnie The Funeral The Funeral (Alternate) Call Me - Dead In The Water About The Mayor Count On It (Alternate) Variations (very roughly: 9:28 of actual alternative music [excluding the parts where the alts are basically the same]) The Meet - film vs. album - very slight timing change with the percussion in the 1:35-1:49 zone; a few seconds more space is there, otherwise (nearly) identical The Hospital - vs. alt. - Same lengths, slightly different instruments play here and there When I Was A Kid - film vs. album - clarinet different at ~:42, plus the album version extends another 1:10 The Cabin - vs. alt. - alt. starts at :17 in original, differently performed middle, last :17 just different The King Maker - film vs. album - Different versions, film is more dynamic, quieter where quiet, punchier where not; the alt. is specifically an alt. of the film version, with a sultry sax at ~:44 & 1:52 Take A Vacation - film vs. album - Album has 40 seconds extra up front, and the performances & mixes differ, alt. Uses brass instead of winds for the theme (1:15 less of alternate than album) Count On It - they share a middle, different performances, I think… Swartz Is Dead & Old Friends film vs. album - once swapped (Neil mentioned fixing a misnaming issue with the original Varese) the files seem identical. If only there was a way for Varese to give potential buyers who might be wondering the same thing just a SAMPLE of what the new music sounds like. I feel like there's a word for that kind of SAMPLING of the music but I just can't think of it. Somewhere near when the fixed CDs start arriving, and people feel safe to order it, we'll drop a Goldsmith Odyssey episode which should help in this exact way, Mike. All this said, if you don't have the score, it's a great listen. If you already did, if the above seems minimal, know that the album itself, by which I mean the entire CD as a whole, is a really good play. It's on the good list of Repeat-All discs, satisfying all the way through, which is difficult to pull off where music does repeat.

I've listened also to the samples on the Varese website and they sound good. City Hall has always been a personal favorite of mine so I think that, once the replacement discs are there, I will buy this one.
