I believe people are simply addressing—in varying degrees of politeness—that the reality in cost to the customer in obtaining this set can be a very different number from $11 and some cents per disc. At the end of the day, everyone has to crunch their own numbers and weigh their own desire and determine whether the purchase—any purchase—would be of good value to them personally.

Box-sets aren't cheap, so, buyers need to be realistic, that's a fair price you pay when collecting quality scores, if you wait & luck-out, it not being a rapid seller, then by all means both parties are still happy, if there's a sale on SK.

Really? Learn to count, dude... how much is the international shipping of this piece of shit?

So now Varèse is supposed to incorporate international shipping rates and European import taxes and charges into their pricing?

No, U.S. customers should pay a bit more in shipping to reduce the costs for their international customers. If something is not done to aid international buyers, than the market, which I am sure is already heavily dependent on U.S, will become more so. How sustainable is it for Varese etc to rely solely on the U.S customers in the long run?

Personally, I don't give a damn what Europeans have to pay to import a box set. Nor would I expect them to care what Americans had to pay to import one from Europe. The manufacturers will set the price at what they feel it needs to be for it to earn them a profit, and people will then either buy the product or they won't.

That's how this works. End of story.

Bought mine early Saturday morning, by the way, and because of the Stephen King factor moreso than the individual scores.

In other words, U.S. customers should subsidize international shipping? Where did this genius scheme come about? Nah! Let market forces sort it out.... and let the chips fall where they may. Soundtrack CDs aren't a fundamental human right.

Getting back to music, I would love to hear the Gary Chang scores to two King films: Storm of the Century and Rose Madder. There are King films on television and the big screen with eclectic composers and unusual music that are worthy of a second collection of releases. I am happy that Varese went ahead and released this set since I do not have any of the music.

Well FSM did have that MGM (really UA) grab-bag Treasury box that a lot of people complained about at the time, and it was also limited to 1500 and sold out really fast -- it was the only FSM box I missed out on acquiring.

Personally I would have been a lot more interested in this collection if it focused on primarily orchestral scores. An expanded/remastered Needful Things by Patrick Doyle, for instance. Still it looks like a cool set and I'll be interested to see the price tag. I'm a little confused by your complaint, solium, since the title you want is almost half the box, coming in at an impressive 3 discs -- maybe you should wait and see what the price tag is.

Yavar

But Bruce Kimmel on his Kritzerland label has released some of those gems from that FSM Treasury box and I was able to pick them up and am quite happy with the quality of the cds, so don't fret. If a title that sold out on one label is still in demand, other labels may eventually release it. I have always been the eternal optimist.

Those are both phenomenal scores; the fact that they aren't available yet bums me out every time I remember it.

The Tommyknockers (Christopher Franke) is another good candidate.

@Driving Miss Daisy. Please pass it along that I’m really grateful that generous sound samples were provided for the set. I hadn’t actually heard any of the music from the TV miniseries The Shining and The Stand. I was only familiar with Firestarter and Dreamcatcher, but I’m so impressed with all of the music that I bought the set. Thanks!

Will do! For me, I was most excited about The Shining. Glad it worked out that we could grab it. I would have also loved Storm Of The Century and Rose Red, but it just didn't work that we could include them. smile

What WAS included is really interesting. I was worried that it would just be a forced buy, where if you want those one or two scores, you gotta buy these other lesser scores together, but not so in this case. The Shining score is way beyond what I expected and overall the collection is great. Perhaps a 2nd volume is in the cards?

But don't U.S. customers have to pay extra when buying items from overseas themselves? Shipping costs bite everybody to some degree.

Are there separate soundtrack covers for each of these? More specifically, I'm curious if there is a digital cover for THE STAND online?

If not, I'll just have to use the one from the OST.

Anybody know when these will begin shipping? Pretty sure it said 11/20 when I ordered it.

Expected to begin shipping in the week of 20th of November, it says on Varese's site. That's a "maybe" wink

I've emailed Varese asking for an update on when this will actually begin shipping, and haven't gotten a reply.

Not terribly impressed with their rollout on this.
