Double post.

I apologize for hijacking this thread but I just wanted to address Justin's comment about my supposed misogyny.

For the record, I don't have a misogynist bone in my body. I really have no idea what in the world Justin is talking about. This is all hearsay and I really don't appreciate him defaming me in this nature.

Anyway, back to The Avengers: Endgame.

I was referring to the Black Panther quote in INFINITY WAR.

I see there are a few back and forth exchanges involving calling each other douchebags. I don't have the time or patience to go delete them all.

You guys know the rules—no name-calling.

And please, be more thoughtful about your behavior so it doesn't get to the point where somebody feels like calling you a name.

Thanks!

Lukas

So looking on the Amazon product page, it seems the CD will have 28 tracks as opposed to the MP3's 35 tracks.

*download.

That was similar for Infinity War -- the download had a lot of "extrended version" tracks over the CD, I assume it's the same here.

I picked up on the ‘Ant Man’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ quotes but didn’t notice the ‘Doctor Strange’ or ‘Black Panther’ ones. Which moments did they accompany on screen?

The Doctor Strange quote comes in when we see The Ancient One for the first time.

I didn’t notice the the Black Panther reference. Where was that?

The only thing I noticed, it's the race motif from infinity wars when they were in Wakanda, and here when you see Black panther running for the gauntlet.

Didn't see this mentioned yet in the morass but CD is up for pre-order. And only ten bucks (US).

That's what I figured would happen, similar to last year's two releases for Infinity War. I'll get both versions, same as last year, as I am both curious to see if the curated single-disc edition mirrors my track choices from the 2-hour digital version and most likely I'll wind up listening to the CD version more often.

It seems to miss that one : Get this thing started. I like it. Maybe they will combine different tracks... Well, I don't really believe it... but who knows?

Someone on Reddit posted a pretty thorough thematic analysis of this score here:

Definitely an interesting and quite revealing read.

That reddit post is pretty interesting, thanks.

By the way, a bit surprised no one has mentioned this here AFAIK, but the Endgame theme (as heard in "The Real Hero" for example) is very reminiscent of the Finlandia Hymn by Sibelius. Hope no one is triggered by comparing two pieces of music, but that's what I was reminded of the first time I heard it in the cinema.

After Infinity War was so different than I expected, leading to the music not being very heroic styled, I decided to not listen to Endgame music until I watched the film. I'm glad I did not listen to the music first because it let me feel the scenes that much better for the first time based on how well the music supported the emotions on screen. My overall reaction to the score as heard in the movie and later listening to it is that Silvestri did a great job highlighting the emotions. The action music was a slight improvement from the previous scores and the orchestration finally was allowed to be more complex.

My overall reaction to the score: not as good as AIR FORCE ONE by Jerry Goldsmith.

Well, I got my copy of the CD version of the score and as with Infinity War it's a 78-minute version of the the deluxe edition. Now what I find fascinating is that in addition to seeing which tracks are included and which aren't from the deluxe edition and which are edited-down versions, some of the same-named tracks are actually longer on the CD than the download.

It will take some time to identify why this is the case, but one example I have found so far is that the CD version of the track "Worth It" is 4:59 while the download version of this track is 4:16. What Silvestri did is take the first :50 seconds or so of "Tunnel Scape" and grafted this as the opening of "Worth It" on the CD. After those initial :50 seconds, the cue continues as before. Other tracks are more evidently edited down, such as "Where Are They", which runs 3:13 on the deluxe edition and only 1:17 on the CD, as the CD version is just the opening minute or so of the same track.

It will be neat to listen for the differences and I'm happy to have both versions, the CD being the "best bits" of the deluxe (although I do miss "Get This Thing Started" from the deluxe edition, I understand why Silvestri excluded it from the CD, since it does incorporate material already heard in IW).
