I've now brought and tried two copies to get disc 2 to rip (using dbpoweramp) and cannot get a clean rip from either. Both stutter and jump all over the place. The odd track rips ok but most just don't want to know. Disc 1 rips and plays fine as does every other disc i've brought in both deliveries.
Have I just been unfortunate in the two i've received ?

I've had problems with Itunes, also. Usually with the last tracks. I had this issue with Peter Proud.
Discs play fine, but I get the clicking sounds in Itunes.

My disc two also has a plentitude of problems. Just as you mentioned.

I can’t believe all this negativity bitc###ing! After all of these years of all of you requesting this score. Finally released & still complaining about nothing relevant. What a bunch of SNOBS! Don’t even know why I read this forum! Nothing is ever good enough for you!
My copy arrived Friday, but I've been too into RoboCop 2 to give it a whirl until today. Listened to the soundtrack assembly. Damn, I remembered enjoying it in the film, but I'd forgotten just how good it is. That sweeping, noble theme heard in "All Systems Go - The Launch" that's triumphantly reprised in "Re-Entry and Splashdown" and the end credits has to be one of my favorites in Horner's career.
The moody, textual music for the danger of the situation with the rhythmic woodblock figures are hypnotic, though I'll admit I was a bit distracted by the woodblock rhythms until I remembered what other Horner score utilized a similar technique: Flightplan. Great stuff in both cases.
I don't understand the objections over the choir. It's just another tool for the composer to utilize. I don't perceive any inherent religious connotations unlike others have. (No more than trumpets are militaristic by default.) To me, the choir signifies first the wonder of going into outer space before shifting to the joy of returning back to Earth.
With any luck, I'll be able to give the first disc a spin within a week. (My disc 2 seems to have ripped fine. The first six tracks anyway.)

I find the new presentation on Disc 1 terrific. The high resolution sound upgrade is a reason enough to purchase this album. The flow is much better without the dialogue and effects that it was almost jarring not hearing them in the familiar cues. Horner had a knack for handling music about Flight and Spaceflight and he really knocked it out of the park on this one. He does uses his familiar bag of tricks but as a dramatist he succeeds brilliantly painting the mood and emotions. The Boston Pops alumnus Tim Morrison steals the show on his fine trumpet playing. Last but not least 'All Systems Go - The Launch' has to be one of James Horner's most satisfying and exhilarating cue of his career.
