Ordered the hardcover, softcover, and digital w/images versions. Since I have the memory of a goldfish, I'll be shocked in June when the charge hits.

Jon Burlingame's excellent MUSIC FOR PRIME TIME doesn't suffer from its black and white and greyscale palette. In fact, it adds an air of classiness to the layout. It's also true that at least 90 percent of the book covers periods when black and white stills were not only common, but actually preferred for print. The JERRY GOLDSMITH COMPANION covers a lot of the same period, so to me it's logical the stills inside it would be black and white.

A welcome compromise would be to include a colour section of maybe 6-8 pages in the centre of each volume (or perhaps only in the centre of the later-era volume 2), where colourful things like album art, photo shoots (e.g. the famous "red jumper" shoot, if it's featured) and other colour photos could be replicated.

It's a fair assumption that art like Bob Peak's iconic ST:TMP poster will lose 90% of its impact in B&W. Ditto his famous painting of Jerry, if those are included.

It wouldn't even need a change to the other pages, the colour section could duplicate images displayed elsewhere, but in colour.

Just a question for the sponsors at CF, Will the Kick starter fans also get an acknowledgment of 'Thanks' in the books? This may be 1 page worth of addition. Just a thought....

Speaking of Bob Peak’s iconic painting of Jerry, a lithograph of that would be a nice stretch goal.

Very excited by this project, but worried about customs charges in the UK, so hope a distributor can be found here. Would rather have the book(s) in my hands rather than digital, but will opt for the latter if I have to.

As far as I know books are exempt from VAT in the uk so there should be no charges

Seems that there may be 20% duty to pay.

So, I'm considering the hardcover only $95 but I'm wondering what the advantage is to do this now rather than later when the books are actually out. Is there a price advantage and/or a shipping cost advantage? Will there be a shortage of books when they're released and I'd miss out? I'd appreciate any info on this. Thanks

Sadly, yes, this is likely. And Royal Mail handling charges.

This is noted on the Kickstarter page:

“ACT NOW: the individual price of each edition reflects a 15-20% discount from the retail price when the books become available this fall. This discount ends at 11:59pm PST, Thursday, June 15th.”

So I am still hoping for a UK distributor.

From latest Kickstarter update:

“ This overwhelming start encourages us to consider other ways that we might make the book an even greater tribute to our maestro.”

Lithograph or print of Bob Peak portrait, please.

Right, and also presumably backers will get their copies earlier.

Yavar.

These two details would be a wonderful upgrade!

Great News for the Kickstarter Supporters.

The official newsletter just confirmed:

"As backers of this project, you probably feel like you've got a real stake in it. As you should. Which is why we'll show our gratitude and recognize your contributions, by listing every backer on a thank you page (or two) in each volume of The Jerry Goldsmith Companion. Because we couldn't do it without you. Thanks again!"

Not seeing anything on the campaign page about it yet, did we ever get an answer about the images of THE BURBS, The SWARM, IQ/Seconds, CABOBLANCO and ARCHER CDs - were they supposed to be in a reward tier?

Those CDs simply represented La-La Land releases, potentially available with the 25% off coupon offered in one of the rewards. Sorry for the confusion!

In the interest of keeping folks up-to-date on the campaign, here’s the latest…

STRETCH GOAL #1

We hope that you're enjoying this campaign as much as we are. Yes, the growing number of backers is very gratifying, and we thank you. The real joy, however is hearing the stories and reminiscences that you all have shared about a lifetime of listening to Jerry's music. We feel the same as you, and would like to give back a little more.

So at this time we annouce our first, modest stretch goal: when we reach $85,000, we will present all backers, past and future, a pair of screen wallpapers based on our book covers. Artist Miles Teves' sensitive, expert renderings will make a fine tribute to our favorite composer on your desktop and/or phones. Just another way to say thanks for your support! When we make it to $85,000, that is.

Please note that the books are being offered at a substantial discount from their eventual retail price, so if you know someone who is undecided, maybe now's the time to suggest that they make their pledge. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nightgalleryart/the-jerry-goldsmith-companion
