Some people here seem to have only a very rudimentary idea of what constitutes the "holy grail" Holy grails are in the ear of the beholder. From my previous list: The Three Musketeers - Michael Kamen Willow - James Horner - Released by Intrada 2022 JFK - John Williams Indiana Jones series - John Williams (Concord is disappointing in places) Star Wars prequels - John Williams And I would add to these: The Santa Clause - Michael Convertino

Why hasn't anyone in all these responses mentioned Barry's "Mary, Queen of scots"? Other than a truncated re-recording accompanying his "Lion in Winter" by Silva, I'm unaware of any versions of this minor masterpiece -- original or otherwise -- in existence. Am I wrong? The soundtrack LP was released on CD by Intrada in 2008, it's a short album, but in great sound, I'm very happy I have it, as once it sold out (3000 copies, it didn't take that long) it was never rereleased. As I said up there, while it has not been re-released on CD, it is available from various outlets to stream and/or as 16bit/44.1kHz download. https://www.qobuz.com/de-de/album/mary-queen-of-scots-john-barry/h3xmm91r1djsc If I had to choose just one "holy grail" it would be Max Steiner's Helen Of Troy (1956), but it would need a big expensive new recording, along the lines of The Alamo & Fall Of The Roman Empire, & I just can't see that happening. I would definitely buy such a re-recording. Heck, I know there are some people here who champion for a re-recording of Hugo Friedhofer's Joan of Arc. I don't recall if I ever saw the movie (perhaps as a kid), so I'm not familiar with the score, but I would absolutely support and/or buy a re-recording of that score as well. (I think Hugo Friedhofer is a terrific composer.) As far as I can tell, all those re-recording projects of golden age classic film scores are passion projects, where people really want to do them, because in all likelihood, they will lose money. So whenever there is one of those, I am usually very interested, because if some passionate producer/conductor/label team thinks a score is worthy of a re-recording, it usually is. I remember when "Joan Of Arc" was broadcast on KTVU Channel 2 Oakland, usually around Easter, and they always showed as a preview the scene where Joan leads her forces into battle. I didn't see the film until they had that horribly edited and somewhat uneven version (the version they aired on television) when it was released on V.H.S. and was impressed with Friedhofer's score, but was even more impressed when image Entertainment put the restored version out on D.V.D., which was far better than the edited version.

Happy to scratch Tomorrow Never Dies off of my list! Also to spinmeister, if the Final Destination scores mean a lot to you then they totally count as Holy Grail releases.

Frank Skinner - "Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein" (World Premiere Recording) (if they can get the legal hurdles involving Bud and Lou's images for the C.D. inlay cover, they can finally get it released). Is this just wishful thinking on your part or what is the actual source for your assertion that the complete score should have been re-recorded during the last few years? It you remember it, in 2012 Morgan/Stromberg couldn´t even finance their last Tribute recording THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN anymore by themselves and it was only through SAE´s Craig Spaulding that the CD could be produced at all. So how should it suddenly have been possible to re-record the complete ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN score and when?

My two biggest grails remain Carter Burwell's "The Jackal" and "Fear". Don't have much hope though that these will ever be releases though
