Mine should land this week. Super-stoked. I haven't bought any new scores for a while, so these will get well played upon arrival.
Ordered along with Cat's Eye, Capricorn One and Rogue Nation. That's a lotta plastic wrapping.

I'm organizing these in my library by season (keeping them otherwise the same sequence as they are on the CDs):

I've been really enjoying this set. I'll have more to say about it when I've gotten through more of it, but from the episode guide in the booklet to the crisp mono sound, this is definitely a top-notch presentation of some really nifty music.

I never got into Mission: Impossible, more out of missing it when it was running in syndication than anything else. I love Lalo Schifrin's music in general, and I am familiar with the theme (everyone is) and the albums he recorded, as well as the 20 minute suite on the GNP Crescendo disc, so I was very interested in hearing more. As others have pointed out, the other composers really shine here as well. Very nice to have more Don Ellis, and his spooky version of “The Plot” is really cool. I also really liked the Walter Scharf and Gerald Fried… hell, the whole thing is good so far. On to the next disc…

Great work to all involved. It is definitely appreciated here.

This set also demonstrates how our favourite composers could come up with very decent and fully-constructed tunes for fairly short and disposable scenes (the old source music). And then having top flight jazzers and session players put all that writing into action, with solos of the usual virtuosity.

Witness the 'Killer Rock' cue composed by Lalo for the Season 5 episode The Killer - lots of guitar and jazz-rocky organ.

The score cues from The Killer might be my favourite Schifrin score on the set, actually.

Lalo's score for "The Killer" is fantastic! Right out of the Bullitt/Dirty Harry style. Oddly the head bad guy in the episode is named "Scorpio"!

I love the double bass work in this score smile

We'll be right back after Cool Cocktails with the season 3 kickoff The Heir Apparent. Sit back and relax until then.

So, these sets I bought without having much of the show itself. Not sure how I missed it during reruns or whatnot during the previous decades, but much like the MAN FROM UNCLE sets from FSM, I went into this based on the composers, the time period and the known quality of the music.

It's been a great listen so far, I'm slowly working through one disc at a time and now past disc 3. It certainly doesn't seem to veer into the wide tonal shifts that the UNCLE scores did. I love all those MAN FROM UNCLE albums, even all the goofy stuff from the later seasons, just because it's all so infectious kitschy and memorably hummable.

With these MI scores, they certainly keep the thriller/suspense vibe overall, with only some glimpses of more expressive, florid melodies. Some of the suspense cues can be a bit dry, but it's been super enjoyable. I love the source cues and the catchy Fried and Jack Urbont cues. The Scharf and Drasnin scores have also been excellent, especially the unexpectedly big band moments in "The Ransom".

I've sampled some of the later discs and can't wait to get to the funky, trippy 70's scores and into Schifrin's late 60's/early 70's style.

The further I delve into this set the more cool #%&+ I'm finding…

“The Plot” is so insanely versatile that every time it makes an appearance, it's doing something very different, and this is true whether it's one of Schifrin's scores or any of the other composers that employed it (which was most of them). I love all of the breakdowns in “The Contender.”

I don't even know where to start with this thing. I've been jumping around sampling different seasons. There's just SO much good music here.

I checked out "The Killer" first because of all the above praise. Loved that one. Very Dirty Harry indeed.

What's everyone's favorite episode score so far?

Since so much of this music is new to me, but I love the composers represented, I decided to just take my time and really focus on one disc at a time. I'm now diving into the latter three discs, but from the first three CDs I would say favorites would be the pilot, "Memory", "Odds On Evil", "Wheels", "The Ransom", "Trek", "Echo of Yesterday", "The Contender", "The Merceneries", "The Diplomat", "The Execution", "The Play" and "Hazardous Duty".

As I said above, probably 'The Killer'.

Overall though, I find the music of the other composers probably even more enjoyable than Lalo's!

For me it's been "The Code". I consider it a good transition piece from what the series began with to what it ended with.

Congratulations to those responsible for the booklets and notes. This is well up to the very best standards set by FSM in the past.
I'm two discs into listening and it's all very enjoyable so far.

Thanks. Considering that Jon and I are both vets of many FSM releases, I guess it makes sense that we've carried the torch. We appreciate being noticed!

Does anyone know if the episode with Vic Morrow "Two Thousand" used a pre-existing music or did it have an original score?

This set of music is absolutely amazing. I figure it must not have been an easy job to pick out the cues on this album from seven seasons worth of music, but apperently it wasn't an impossible mission to do that. Whoever was responsible for this did an amazing job - the music presented here makes a wonderful listen and it never gets boring. There's a whole lot great material and favourite stuff of mine on every disc - this set was well worth the wait.

Liner notes (and the amount of them) and the artwork are excellent, too - love the disc design especially. However I think I got a defective set? None of the disc destroyed itself after listening... I won't complain, though.

Favourites? Too many.
Thanks to the IMF of LLL for making this release possible!

"Two Thousand" is just stock music. It includes a funk/acid rock rendition of "The Gentle Earthquake" by Lalo Schifrin when Vic Morrow is listening to the radio at the start of the episode.

The Mission version of "Gentle Earthquake" is included on the LLL set in the section from "The Miracle."
