Another bracing 90's Goldsmith action effort (w/an assist from Joel McNeely) that was gutted on Varese's initial release, but now plays far better at full length.
"Assemble Task Force X. We have another Suicide Mission." Batman: Assault On Arkham (Music From The DC Universe Animated Movie) - Robert J. Kral
This fun animated movie is everything David Ayer's sub-par Suicide Squad isn't and more, which is impressive for a movie under 80 minutes long. Batman: Assault On Arkham is easily one of the better DCAU direct to video movies as well. Kral's score, which is very techno/contemporary, gives the movie that extra charm, imo. He even adapts his own Batman theme/motif from the Deadshot segment of the animated anthology movie Batman: Gotham Knight. And unlike most DCAU direct to video movie scores (or even Blake Neely's DC CW scores) Kral's score doesn't sound like a synth mock up or cheap to my ears. It's a very top notch score for a low budget direct to video animated movie, imo.
As one of the earliest Horner scores in my collection at the beginning of the 90's, it's a thrill to finally have it in complete form. In can't comment on how this mastering compared to the first Intrada release as I never owned it, but this one sounds terrific.
"Control is an illusion, you infantile egomaniac. Nobody knows what's gonna happen next: not on a freeway, not in an airplane, not inside our own bodies and certainly not on a racetrack with 40 other infantile egomaniacs." Days Of Thunder (Music From The Motion Picture) - Hans Zimmer
Tony Scott and Tom Cruise’s NASCAR adventure movie was released in theaters 30 years ago today.
