Where's the best place to find HQ artwork (at least 1200x1200) for these new Godzilla releases?

I did grab these off of Amazon.jp, but they're only 1035x1024. Help yourself.

I am hoping to order all of these eventually, but there are only so many I can order at a time. Can anyone please recommend their top 5 or 6 CDs you would recommend that someone start with? I don't have a strong connection to the Godzilla films, but I enjoy the classic Ifukube theme, and Godzilla Minus One inspired me to check out the soundtracks for more Japanese Godzilla soundtracks.

The Heisei scores (silver borders) are my favourites.

RETURN OF GODZILLA - Reijiro Koroku
GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE - Kohichi Sugiyama
GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH - Akira Ifukube
GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA - Akira Ifukube
GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA - Akira Ifukube
GODZILLA VS. SPACE-GODZILLA - Takayuki Hattori
GODZILLA VS. DESTORYAH - Akira Ifukube

Personally, I am partial to the Showa Ifukube soundtracks. Not only are they thematically more varied than the maestro's Heisei scores, they feature (arguably) the definitive versions of most of the themes, and many other themes as well. These are my recommendations:

GODZILLA (1954)
KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (1963)
MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964)
GHIDORAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER (1964)
MONSTER ZERO (1965)
DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968)
TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA (1975)

Can anyone please recommend their top 5 or 6 CDs you would recommend that someone start with?

Here are my choices with specific reasons.

1. Godzilla.
The classic! You'll have to endure that ear piercing crying with 'Tragic Sight of the Imperial Capital', but it's hard to beat the classics. Plus the Godzilla stomping and roaring sounds having their own tracks is cool.

2. Mothra vs. Godzilla.
Anything with Mothra's Song is an instant buy for me and this release has an excellent take.

3. Son of Godzilla.
When I watched the Showa Era set of Godzilla movies from Criterion, the track 'Gimantis' really stood out for me. It's catchy, fun and was one of several tracks I searched for when the CDs were ripped.

4. Godzilla vs. Hedorah
So many takes of 'Give Back the Sun!', the Anti-pollution song that plays throughout the film. It also contains one of the weirdest themes given to Godzilla that only involves slow-blowing horns. It's kind of funny! The score in general could easily fit in an episode of 'Star Trek: The Original Series'. The soundtrack can get a little nuts, especially with the track 'Sulfuric Acid Mist'. My personal favorite track? 'Godzilla Flies'

5. Godzilla vs. Megalon
Jet Jaguar! JET JAGUAR! PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH! And there are so many renditions of this gosh darn song on this release that it's easily become the most played CD of the lot. It's not just a goofy song, but it's also a Mystery Science Theater 3000 classic.

6. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
This is an odd recommendation for sure, but I dig the 90s sounding vibe that's going on with this score. The 'UFO Raid' track is pinnacle "Hurry up and do something!" energy. It also has one of the most unintentionally funny pieces of score to play in a Godzilla film with the track 'Android M-11'. You HAVE to see this track in action (Specifically, the portion that plays at 1:05) in the movie itself to get the full effect.

Persoanlly, if I was getting into Godzilla scores without having seen the films, the 70s Showa titles are not the ones I would begin with.

As another member has already mentioned, I would also recommend starting with a few of the 60s-70s Showa Godzilla soundtrack CDs, especially Godzilla 1954, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah The Three-Headed Monster, which are arguably Akira Ifukube's four greatest Godzilla scores.

Of course, Ifukube's soundtracks to Monster Zero and Destroy All Monsters are also classics, containing some of his most well known marches, and if you want to own an Akira Ifukube "Best of" CD, then pick up the Godzilla vs. Gigan soundtrack CD...this one is unique for reusing his music from 11 different sources, including his Expo '70 themes...this soundtrack is a great listen overall.

Great list. Mr. Ifukube really came into his own during this period, particularly in the meaty part of the curve AKA MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964). I would also add ATRAGON (1964), WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (1965) and FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD (1966) if one is interested in exploring the Maestros work further.

Yes, those are all winners. Even earlier scores like RODAN (1956), THE MYSTERIANS (1957), VARAN THE UNBELIEVABLE (1958) and BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1959) have their share of indelible themes.

I have listened through all the Showa titles I ordered and found them to be slightly superior to the Perfect Collection. These new remasters are a bit louder and seem to have more bottom end compared to the Perfect Collection. The only title that made me pause and think something wasn't right was GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA (1964), which has a lot of the "wow" effect, unfortunately, in loud passages. The Perfect Collection version was a bit softer (a bit of reverb added, perhaps?) so I didn't notice the wow as much with it.

By the way, I picked up 6 of the 2024 Heisei remasters and just compared the 2024 Godzilla 1984 CD with the 2006 Toho Music Perfect Collection Box 4 CD version. First, I listened to the 2024 remaster and initially liked it, even though I also thought it was a drop too loud and very bright. Then I played the 2006 Box 4 CD and was reminded just how nice this one sounded!

In my opinion, the Toho Music Box 4 CD is the clear winner, both in terms of audio quality and track-list. The audio has a lower volume level and sounds very natural and warm, without any of the brightness that's on the 2024 CD. I no longer have the 1993 Godzilla 1984 Futureland CD, but from memory, it sounded very nice, like most of the Futureland CDs do.

I hope I won't be sorry now that I bought six out of the seven 2024 Godzilla Heisei CDs, because the 2024 Godzilla 1984 CD is a bit too bright for my liking, and track 15 in particular. "Destruction Of Nuclear Plant", was much louder on the 2024 CD...I literally thought this track was going to blow out my car windows between the 8-15 second mark...that's when the track itself or the midrange really comes alive, but that section was definitely magnified way too much on the 2024 CD.

I have a feeling that I will end up liking the 2024 Godzilla Showa CD remasters a lot more overall, because they offer more clarity and some bottom end this time around for those classic mono scores, but the 2024 stereo Heisei remasters will unfortunately be hard pressed to top the earlier CD versions, which already had a nice, natural sound quality.

Of course, if no one has any of the original Godzilla Heisei CDs, than these new 2024 remasters are definitely your best option to acquire them all in brand new and sealed condition, for what are considered to be budget prices.

By the way, for those interested, King Records in Japan will be issuing "Special CD" releases for Godzilla 1954 and King Kong vs. Godzilla this November to commemorate Godzilla's 70th Anniversary. King Records previously released these two soundtracks on LP in 2014, but there was no CD release.

Here is the King Kong vs. Godzilla CD - it contains the full soundtrack but there are no bonus tracks.

After the Futureland releases, the La-La-Land releases, the Godzilla Perfect Collection boxes - all six - and the Godzilla Complete Works, I think I'm good. big grin Never thought I'd say this.

Thanks for the update though.

Ha, yes, I completely understand, but these two soundtracks from King Records will have their own unique artwork and different mastering as well from any previous CD releases. Still, the most complete version on CD is clearly Toho Music's King Kong vs. Godzilla 2CD set...that one is hard to top.

Yes, both front covers are awesome, and I believe the Godzilla '54 cover is the same front cover as the original 1954 theater program.

Universal Music 2024 reissue of the first Godzilla is a but disapponting as it countains dialogues over a couple tracks. Would anyone know if the LP version of King Records was better in term of program ?
Also, as pleased as I am with Universal Music 2024 reissue of King Kong v Godzilla, I would welcome the stereo mix since I don't own the LLLD version of this score: it's difficult to know if KR will be mono or stereo. Nice covers though.

Regarding King Records upcoming King Kong vs. Godzilla CD, I'm actually not sure if it will be in mono or stereo. The 2006 La La Land stereo CD is getting harder to find these days, but I do see copies for sale on Discogs website.

Also, Godzilla Perfect Collection Box 1 from 2004, which contains the King Kong vs. Godzilla 2CD set (separate mono and stereo CDs), is still available from Ark Square in Japan...
