Any hope of score restores for the unused cues? (Particularly the four newly released ones?)

I've taken liberties with the Darkness Arisen cue. Seeing as how was unused, is very short and has an abrupt fadeout, I've joined it to the start of the "Oona" track where, in my opinion, it flows very well and makes it sound more a part of the whole and less of a short little fragment.
I've sent you an audio snippet to show what I mean.

Update: Could not send the clip. Couldn't access the Goldsmith Odyssey link for an email.

Oh! What a neat creative choice, I should test that combo out as well!

I don't know how to post an audio clip here. If anyone would like to post it here for me, I'll send them a brief mp3 snippet by email.

We scored with this one. Paul MacLean, who write the great notes for the Silva Screen edition of the Legend soundtrack, and Jeff Bond, who wrote the new ones, joined Yavar and me to talk through Legend, the production background, why Goldsmith even agreed to it, how his music was used, the early releases, the new cues, even the bits of music in the film which still do not appear on any release. We play the music too, so you can hear all those bits and wonder for yourself if they were removed for the album or patched in for the film, and Paul and Jeff offer educated thoughts on those.

Latest from The Goldsmith Odyssey:

Then, if you want a deep dive on the differences in how Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream approached the movie, Erik's Cinematic Sound network produced a two part Soundtrack Alley program this past July.

"In part one of our look at the production of LEGEND and the use of music in both versions, Erik, Jason, Robert and David talk about various topics including when they first saw the film, which version of the film they like, the film’s production design, the gorgeous cinematography, Ridley Scott’s history as a director, a comparison of Jerry Goldsmith’s and Tangerine Dream’s scores and a detailed comparison of “The Unicorn” sequence, which Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream both scored.

In addition, David Coscina’s participation in this discussion offers a unique perceptive to the program as he brings his expertise as a composer to the table and provides detailed musical analysis of both scores and performs specific sections of each score on his piano to help paint a clear picture as to what the Jerry Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream were bringing to the film."

"Part two of the ninth episode of SOUNDTRACK ALLEY here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO continues the analysis and discussion of the music written for the separate cuts of Ridley Scott’s 1985 epic dark fantasy adventure film, LEGEND, featuring music by Jerry Goldsmith (European Cut) and Tangerine Dream (American Cut).

The conversation continues with an in-depth look at three more sequences; Jack accepting weapons and armour to become The Champion, a bewitched and seduced Lili dancing and the fall of Darkness."

Great job Yavar and David (and Paul & Jeff) on the podcast. Extremely deep and endlessly fascinating.

Outstanding. I'm reliving my own experiences with LEGEND over the decades!

Just curious: Jeff Bond says around the 50 minute mark that he has watched Legend several times over the past year for another project. Has it been revealed elsewhere what this project is?

As for the podcast: I haven't quite finished it yet, but I already want to say thanks to everyone involved for a great listen!

Perhaps for special features for the Arrow Blu-ray.

That makes sense, thanks. The way he paused midsentence, like pondering whether to reveal anything, got up my hopes for something big and mysteries. But given that there is a music documentary on the BluRay that's probably it.

Sid Sheinberg had a big 1985. As well as nixing the score to LEGEND and almost doing the same to BRAZIL, he tried to change the title of BACK TO THE FUTURE to SPACEMAN FROM PLUTO.

MBR now has it listed as "warning - last items in stock", does this mean it is about to go OOP since this was the second pressing? I was hoping to order it along with a few other titles that aren't in stock yet. Blast razz

I dunno, but "warning - last items in stock" does sound like the last items, period, not the last items of a particular run. It's just 2000 copies of a highly esteemed Goldsmith score, which was last released by Silva Screen 29 years ago. I think this will be OOP soon.
