No TAS will be included, as much as we would love to--it's a different production company and in any case Ray Ellis told me that music has long since been lost. But as far as the cue sheets go, we have scans of all of them--there isn't room to include them in the booklet but I do think it would be interesting for people to have them and maybe cut together their own "tracked" scores. smile

For those wanting Filmation series music, check out this YouTube video. Some highly motivated person apparently went through all the episodes to piece this together from dialogue free sections.

Mike

Mike, I know Ray Ellis did a lot of work in New York (like the 1967 Spider-man) and was wondering if the Filmmation scores were recorded there or in LA.

Neat stuff. Thanks for posting.

Too bad that TAS music is lost. It did have some great chase music and a nice love theme.

That youtube suite is a nice representative sample. For the technology-impaired like me, there's a program called Audio Hijack Pro that lets you record anything playing over your computer such as stuff on youtube.

A link from the website after the set is released perhaps?

Yes, I think mostly with music from, of all things, Fried's scores for "Friday's Child" and "Catspaw" (and also Steiner's quintessential menace music from "What Little Girls Are Made Of")

The sequences that pop into my head are from Who Mourns for Adonias (when we first see the rocket on the pad after Gary Seven transports to NASA) and Mudd's Women (as Gary Seven ascends the gantry).

Best Video Downloader enables you to download video and audio from YouTube effortlessly. And it's free.

I'm starting to like the cardboard jewel boxes with clear trays and/or pouches....I see more releases using these and the best thing about them is they won't break in shipping.

No way. Anything with pouches instead of trays will scratch the discs.

LLL, Jeff Bond, et al - please make sure these discs are housed as safely as possible. Not just to protect during shipping but to avoid damage during assembly at the plant.

The simpler cases, with fewer discs, seem to yield less damage. smile

I'll personally pack and inspect every set.

Just trying to add my two cents while it may be of value.

These quad cases seem to be one of the worst offenders for scratching discs during assembly:

Can't you just add tribbles in the package for secure shipping?

could we possibly see a re-release of the series (on video) with the missing music tracked into those third season episodes? confused

Quick, call Paramount! It's another excuse to release the TOS/TOS remastered FX on dvd and blurary.

Boy, this brings back memories. Haven't heard this music in decades, but, listening to it now, I remember every note!

The music has an almost British character in places. I wonder if Ray Ellis was an ex-pat.

Since I never picked up the VHS or DVDs and yet to jump on the Blu Rays I am all for it. big grin

Re the confirmation email - I tried twice with my regular email with no response - tried a third time via hotmail and got it right away.

Did I read it correctly that some third season episodes had original scores written for them but never used? If that is the case, could we possibly see a re-release of the series (on video) with the missing music tracked into those third season episodes? confused

No, we're not talking about entire scores that weren't used, but rather individual cues -- quite a large number of them, from the sound of it.

In his book, for instance, Jeff mentions some source cues Jerry Fielding wrote which were intended to be heard in a scene when a character was listening to music on the radio. The music Fielding came up with was deemed too weirdly futuristic-sounding and was rejected for its intended use, then was never edited into any subsequent episodes.

I expect that will be the kind of "missing music" tracks we'll finally get to hear.

Not to mention the use of Doomsday Machine cues and Fred Steiner re-recordings used on The Menagerie Part 2!

Is this some of the "creative" music editing the CBS guys have been doing to the series?

Yuck.

That's messed up. Can't say I like that idea at all.

I think that happened because the original music elements were not accessible when they put the Remastered DVDs together. I'd love to see them use what we've put together to redo the music on the original episodes at some point because they could improve the sound and correct those issues, but I wouldn't count on that happening--they're sinking a huge amount of money into the TNG restoration right now and fixing the sound on TOS would be pretty near the bottom of the priority list...
