LP masters were always made with the understanding that the sound would be effected further along the production chain. The process of cutting the record and playing it back added their own sonic properties, which were accounted for. This is one of the reasons why so many early CD transfers from album masters sounded so awful; they were compensating for something that wasn't happening with the new format.

According to that shopping cart "trick" there are currently 222 copies left @ SAE. Are these the last 222 of the whole 10,000 batch?

Happy New Year to everyone!

That seems impossible to imagine.

Crap... really?

Was hoping to hold out until next payday, but if it is really that low I might have to order it now.

If it were that low I would imagine they would list a Low Qty alert for such a high profile title. I could swear this is a title Lukas may have mentioned as being able to produce more in circulation if needed. Then again I'm probably wrong.

Could also be that they haven't had all 10,000 printed either. Usually they do them in batches.

Time for my annual spin of Poltergeist! I'm not really much of a horror score fan. Not at all. But Jerry did something brilliant with this score. He added a sense of humanity in-between all the scary/tense cues, especially in "The Neighborhood", and of course "Carol Ann's theme" interwoven though out. This is a horror score one can have an emotional attachment too.

The reboot will be missing a key ingredient. The unnerving screen of noise and static we all saw as kids when stations used to actually go off the air. Who wasn't hypnotized by that screen as a youth and wondered what was on the "other side"?

So...nine and a half months later, I just recently ordered and received my copy from SAE, brand new copy at standard price. I guess there was no real rush after all. Glad I finally went ahead with this, both for the completeness and quality of the release and for the additional, impressively remastered cues from THE PRIZE (JG's re-recorded versions of five tracks for an LP released long before FSM did its OST CD). I'm not a huge horror score fan, but Jerry made some really wonderful music for POLTERGEIST, and some pretty scary music as well.

"Poltergeist" in retrospect is a classic film that has held up beautifully over the years! Goldsmith wrote a haunting, powerful ,scary and often beautiful score that will live through the years as one of the many Jerry Golsmith's Masterpieces. Just watched "Poltergeist" on Blu Ray and it is indeed a Masterwork.

Likewise on just running the blu; still a great film, bringing the ferocity of Hooper and Spielberg in the prime of his wondrous mode. They don't make them like this anymore: naturalistically, such that the fantastical stuff makes the suspension of disbelief look easy.

Still one of my favorite Goldsmith scores; it just aids and complements the film in so many ways. The whole sequence of Tangina briefing the Freelings about The Other Side, The Beast, how to get Carol Anne back...carried straight through to the "Re-birth" via the bi-location portal in the closet is a standout in Goldsmith's career and a landmark moment in film scoring.

Always meant to get the blu-ray, can't believe I waited so long.

It's so easy to take this masterpiece for granted or forget what FSM did bringing it to us. No words but thanks.

That's for sure. Even among Goldsmith's output, POLTERGEIST deserves a special place, right up there with PLANET OF THE APES and STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE. It is a great listen on its own and works very well within the movie.

The best score ever written for a horror film, IMO, and one of the best scores ever written period.

Absolutely. It's a stunning score no matter how you're hearing it.

Since this is Warner Bros, I think it's a safe bet this comes from the Rhino edition master.

Yes, Watertower used the 1997 Rhino edition. For FSM we redid the entire thing with Bruce Botnick.
