This is a comments thread about FSM CD: Poltergeist |

LP masters were always made with the understanding that the sound would be effected further along the production chain. The process of cutting the record and playing it back added their own sonic properties, which were accounted for. This is one of the reasons why so many early CD transfers from album masters sounded so awful; they were compensating for something that wasn't happening with the new format.

Goldsmith wrote a haunting, powerful ,scary and often beautiful score that will live through the years as one of the many Jerry Golsmith's Masterpieces. That's for sure. Even among Goldsmith's output, POLTERGEIST deserves a special place, right up there with PLANET OF THE APES and STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE. It is a great listen on its own and works very well within the movie.

The best score ever written for a horror film, IMO, and one of the best scores ever written period.

The best score ever written for a horror film, IMO, and one of the best scores ever written period. Absolutely. It's a stunning score no matter how you're hearing it.

Yes, Watertower used the 1997 Rhino edition. For FSM we redid the entire thing with Bruce Botnick.
